From what I understand, if you get a good radar detector, such as a Passport (well it was top of line when I had one), they do not emitt any form of signal, they only recieve a signal, thus cannot be 'detected' --- or so I'm told anyway.

Makes sense - they are really just a scanning device looking for certain frequencies.

I it seems pretty harsh that they have been made illegal and the penalties are so severe.
