What happens when you press the butons/fiddle with the knobs? Is there a model number on it that you can google perhaps?

Its a radar detector, i have the same one in my car. Should be able to trace the wiring to the actual detector somewhere near the front. Tried it once on a fixed speed camera, it beeped...

You just screwed your auto air conditioning. It no longer knows to adjust quickly for external air temperature so response to cabin temperature will be slow.

So long as it picks up external air flow rather than air temperature in the engine or radiator surrounds.

How the heck can they detect your detector? LOL Plus cops use lasers now in many cases, which radar detectors won't pick up. Goes to show that it is all about revenue if they are so opposed to people using them.

I got caught years ago with a Passport Radar Detector in Victoria. The worst thing was I live in SA where they were legal at the time but was driving to Melbourne for work. He got me with a radar gun as I was coming down the hill into Knill and knew I had one because as soon as he pulled the trigger on the radar gun I hit the brakes. The cop said to me he could either fine me for speeding and having the radar detector (expensive and loads of demerits) or just "confiscate" the radar detector and fine me for speeding, all up $120.... Gee I wonder where that radar detector ended up?

Hmmm I'd be interested, provided that it works and actually picks up speed cameras. I presume you haven't seen it work yet though have you? Wouldn't mind coming down sometime to check it out for myself... What's the retail on one of those anyway? I wouldn't mind one that's hidden away.
