...Thats right, faster than the Veyron!

The American-built SSC Aero is a supercar built by Shelby Super Cars (SSC) in order to rival the new Bugatti Veyron with speeds of over 250 mph and a 0-60 mph time of just 2.78 seconds (for the Ultimate Aero TT version). The company and vehicle are the brainchilds of Jerod Shelby, who spent over seven years designing the Aero. The car may be the world's fastest production car at 255.83 mph, a speed reportedly achieved on September 13, 2007 in West Richland, WA. The results of this test, if verified by Guiness World Records, will give the SSC Aero the world's fastest production car title.[1]

Ultimate Aero Twin-Turbo (2007)The SSC Aero first appeared in 2004 under the name 'Aero SC/8T'; the Ultimate Aero is a limited production version of the Aero, offering even higher performance. From various sources, only 25 Aeros will ever be produced, but the sources conflict on actual models. The SSC Ultimate Aero will be the fastest American car on the road. The base Aero model is priced from $239,000, while the Ultimate Aero would cost well over $650,500.

Ultimate Aero is now named Ultimate Aero TT.

The engine in the base Aero model is same as last year, but Ultimate Aero's engine now 387.2 cu.in., rated at 1180 bhp @ 6950 rpm and 961 lb./ft. torque @ 6150 rpm, supercharger is replaced by twin turbocharger with cab adjustable boost pressure. The car is designed to use 92 octane.

The 6-speed transmission is readjusted to increase car's top speed to 273.75mph (437 km/h) @ 7200 rpm, although actual run to such extremes have yet to be made.

Wheels on base model is 18-inch front and 19-inch rear, while Ultimate Aero TT has wheels an inch bigger on both sides.

Coefficient of drag are 0.371 and 0.357 for base and ultimate models respectively .

2007 models are heavier, with base model at 2850 lbs, and Ultimate version at 2750 lbs. Unlike previous year, both models have navigation system, 10-speaker audio/CD/DVD system, video/DVD screen, back-up camera, air-conditioning and trunk space as standard equipment.

The first production 2007 Ultimate Aero TT car was sold on eBay for US $431,100. Later cars are expected to cost US $585,000[2]. Only 24 Ultimate Aero TT are to be produced between 2006-2007.

92 octane in the US is equivalent to about 98 here. Different rating method.

I was about to mention that too Miles.

I thought 200 was the minimum number required to be called "production" (well, afaik that's LeMans entrant requirement for a production vehicle).

Agreed. 25 is not a production car. It's impressive, but not production. Not bad for a Chevy V8, but there are guys making a bit more power out of them on pump gas.

How can they design something that looks like that and still end up with such a poor drag coefficient? Our Soarers have much lower CF's than that!

Our Soarers may not have the same drag but nor do they have any downforce, either, and more downforce adds drag other things being equal.

That's only coefficient of drag. Multiply it by the frontal surface area to get drag force. 0.36 is about the same as the Enzo.

And yes, you have to have a higher Cd when you need more downforce and cooling.

What does this mean? They're not going to run 18 extra mph at those sort of speeds just by adjusting the gear ratios.

Its marketing speak for saying "Theoretically the ratios can support it, but the car doenst have the balls to actually get that extra speed going" =P

Oh come on knockers, if I had a lawnmower like that, I'd put it on my driveway, and I think most of us would - who gives a toss if the change of gearing will give another 18mph.... mind you, I'd close the doors and the bonnet (?) to keep the possums out

David, if they gave it to you, you'd hire a crane to lift over the gutter.....if they gave it to me, I'd hire a dozer and worry about the gutter later....I think it looks the dog's danglies, and I wouldn't mind being termed a silly old fart for saying so

man its like a less angular version of a countach only with modern engineering. Still i hate to think of the detours you'd have to take to avoid speed humps and uneven roads.

It looks like a 12 year old has drawn a Diablo. It even has similar tail lights, only they've added an extra pair.
