Jeff, We have a mobil on one side of the road and a caltex on the other. The caltex keeps putting it's price up(yesterday $1.249/l) but the mobil doesn't move so within a couple of hours, it drops down to match the mobil. We have a fair few stations within a couple of k's, so that seems to keep them all in check. I filled the soarer 2 days ago at the shell and payed only $1.139(with my 4cents coles voucher) for optimax. Still not cheap, as it took 70 litres.

I was going to say "it makes you wonder how there could be such a big price difference" But I won't. With such a big difference we know someone is being RIPPED OFF!!!

Cool!! I figured that it was worth the punt getting it as they are so rare, and so mysterious!!!
I spoke too soon about the fuel cost. I just went down the road....The caltex is at $1.249 and the mobil is at $1.199. I'll see later what the others are at!

i just got back from Thursday island, 40kms off the tip of qld, petrol there is $1.60/L for regular! and because it is so damn hot the fuel evaporates in your tank and you only end up getting around 300kms from a full tank (in my gf's magna anyway) I dont think americans can complain about fuel, 76c/L!!! you poor people! how do you cope after paying 30c a litre for so long!!! (nothing personal katrina )

The NRMA is currently trying to get the consumer watch somethingorother to keep an eye on fuel prices. They seem to go up quite regularly towards the week-end, then comes down again tuesday-wednesday.

Nothing personal taken.. I keep forgetting you guys buy it by the liter. I remember in Japan it was 120 yen per liter (104 yen = $1 USD) .. I was always thankful to buy it by the gallon at around $2.50 a gallon. But I do know in some places around the US the price gouging is around $6 USd per gallon.. the gas prices everywhere are insane!
Yes, I know that... but the "oline" was tacked onto the end of the word "gas" to denote that it is a chemical compound as mentioned in my previous post.
