Sounds good, my aunty has one of them. She hasn't had a problem that I know of, pretty good on fuel too. If I see her soon i'll ask her about it. One owner and a full service history- doesn't get much better than that. Price is right too.

My mate's got a 98 (I think) with all the bells and whistles... pretty clean condition and looks nice as a luxury option.

He hasn't had a problem as far as I know. It's stock and runs well (about 160 or 170K on the clock).

avoid the 150000km+ models (although some are lucky) working at repco, i get alot of custmers complaining about the typical 'mitsubishi' problems appearing in these cars.... what i mean is things rapidly fall apart in these cars...especially @ 200000+ on....

Great cars, just make sure timing belt has been replaced at 100,000 kms or could cost you a lot of money. Apart from that all they need is regular servicing. I had a 2002 Sports, never had a problem with it

I know, terrible isn't it, otherwise it was a nicely appointed car didn't have any problem pre 70 000km not sure how they are now. Probably like anything depends on how much abuse the cars have been through?

These cars are very good quality, and very nice to drive, BUT the downfall is they dont take kindly to abuse.

I used to wash and detail a Verada on weekends for a couple, and it was a pleasure to drive the car, I would pick it up, take it back to my place, clean and detail it, and drive it back to their place.

Car was nimble, comfortable, and very nice, I actually did enjoy that car.

They sold the car to a younger chat, and he flogged it, and within a week it was blowing smoke and rattling at higher rpm's.

Not so nice after that.

I think they're a great car provided they're maintained properly. I had a 2001 model magna, sold it with 200,000km on the clock (had it from 100,000km) never had a single problem with it! Still ran like new when I sold it.
Having said that I test drove a 1998 verada and it was a piece of crap. Gearbox kept jumping out of gear at one stage it completely lost drive and I had to pull over and was ready to call he dealer when it jumped into gear again. Have a full racv inspection done and they'll tell you any tiny thing wrong with it, they do a compression test too.

Also they respond very well to some breathing mods. I just had a sports muffler and K&N filter on my magna and it kept dead even with my then stock TT Soarer up to 100km/h. I even raced a 5.7L SS commodore whos driver had a stunned look on his face when he could pull away :-)

Karyn, I had the windows open and the commodore was screaming its head off! I've all sorts of cars, even a 5.7L SS with the 6speed manual and they're slow as f@#k!
My brother used to drive both Ford and Holden V8 prototypes and although the latest ones go alright he said they've got nothing on my Soarer or Supra.
Sorry to go off topic Adrian.

These Magna's are pretty good cars, one thing to look out for on these cars which you probably already know is check for the oil burning, these cars are common for blue smoke when taking off at traffic lights, and also the V6 engine has a better fuel consumption than a 4 cylinder, as there heavy cars, the bigger engine does'nt work as hard as the smaller one.

Mate I had a 98 verada with all the options as my first car and if you're after a comfortable run-around then you really can't beat it. I'm yet to see a smoother car for under 20 grand. As long as the service history is good it will be very reliable but as you do need to be wary of these cars they can break and require a lot of money quite easily. Treat it right and it's a good buy for 10k.
