Hi, well this may be simple but i cant figure it out. Ever since i downloaded an upgraded version of msn messenger, i keep having the old version popping up and logging in, which causes the newer version to log out. I thought it would be as simple as looking in the Add/Remove Programs section, but only the newer version is listed..any suggestions?
And also, there is a program i want to get rid of, but when i click 'remove program' it does nothing!

yeah i had the same problem with windows messenger and msn always signing each other in and out, was very annoying. apparently the only wau to get rid of windows messengers (i assume this is what you are talking about when you say the old msn) is to go and find the actual .exe file for it and delete it, and then change something in the startup so it doesnt try and load the program. im not exactly sure how to do this, as my mate did it for me a few months ago. im sure someone else will have more info for you.
and then down the side you see add remove programs / add new programs / add remove windows components...click that last one and mine was listed in there!..jus untick it and remove!

haha thanks Jeff, but i dont think i can safely try that
I tried what you suggested Daniel but when i get to the part where you have to select a check box, it says that the file is 0.00mb (wtf) and says that it has deleted it but in fact does nothing..
Thanks for that Rob, but being my technical self, i made it to the part where it asks what program to run it, and im lost
So, what next?? haha thanks guys..
Im definately tempted to throw it out the window and do a burnout on it, but i dont think it would survive that treatment..

There's always alternate methods. I just delete the .exe file (usually located at C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe) then remove it from startup by typing in msconfig in the Run dialog (Windows + R or Start > Run), and then go to the Startup tab and uncheck the program. Or you could just simply get Rob's tool.

I saw the program Call For Help the other day. They've tested the anti-spyware products on the market. Most anti-spyware products don't clean up everything anyway.

yeah i just had to reinstall windows cause i had some hardcore spyware that was totally stuffing up my system, and norton 2005 couldnt get rid of it, it just kept saying that the delete failed and telling me to get the details for removal from their website, but it was easier to just start from scratch again!
