When I eventually sell my wonderful V8, I think I'm going to jump ship and buy a Nissan. The one I refer to is the 2001-2004 Skyline GT8. It's a rear wheel drive V6, 3.5 litre, either 2 or 4 door. Leather and suede upholstery, silver trim, lots of electronic things and heaps of grunt. Should suit an old man like me. What are your thoughts about this vehicle?

Yeah I've considered buying it before. Better than the 350Z, and less expensive. Quite decent car too. The 3.5L is the pick of the bunch, don't waste your time getting the 3L or the 2.5L... I love that pop out screen some of them have.

| I was looking at the new camry or maxima bought this instead, could not compare. The coupe is hot but needed a sedan as a daily driver. Love it!! 3.5L 8speed with paddle shift.

I am sure this is the same as the infiniti m35 (3.5 version). The m35 was my hire car in the States earlier this year and I was sold...there was plenty of get up and go and the level of luxury inside was inspiring. I would love one and in v8 mode would be awesome. Good choice!

| My car dealer mate here in New Plymouth (NZ) has a 2002 4 dr. 3.0l in Silver for $18k(NZD). VERY nice to drive and reasonably quick, but I suspect the 3.5L would be the one to get. A year or so ago He had a 2002 3.5L coupe in Wine Red with Cream leather & suede interior which went for $28k(NZD)..............didn't even last a week on the yard. I agree with Daniel. They're a much better car than the 350Z (and lots cheaper!)

Ah, Kate, I think you'll find the infiniti is front wheel drive and only comes in V6 form. I think the Skyline is quick enough without trying to shoehorn a V8 into it. The '8' refers to the eight speed transmission.

ARE YOU SERIOUS MIKE. that over a 350Z, you got to be joking. i would take the 350Z over that skyline any day.

Nice car. Same motor as 350Z, looks better IMHO and there aren't many on the road - which was one of the reasons I bought a Soarer in the first place. 4 seats, so your resale options aren't as limited, an award winning engine - and 10K cheaper than an equivalent 350Z. Have a look at the prestigemotorsports.com site, you can get one on the road here for under $30K - a complete bargain - BUT to each his/her own.

Sorry Kate, I am wrong about the Infiniti. It is rear wheel drive and comes with a V8. I was thinking of another model Nissan in Australia similar to the Skyline.

Its a shame there isnt much in the 2000-Present market from Japan. Plenty of nice cars just not the same range that 1990-2000 offered.

I think it's more of a case where the govt hasn't expanded the list of cars to import from 2000 onwards. Although having said that, there's no new Supra out there, Silvia has been axed, and the rest of the cars (VIP ones like Celsiors or even Soarers) cannot be imported coz they are sold here, or are bloody expensive to get like the Cima...

Oh really? Coz they axed the S15 due to it not meeting the emission standards anymore, hopefully the new one they release is not as toned down as the V35, engine wise...

There have been plenty of recent additions to the Register of Specialist & Enthusiast Vehicles. Plenty of Cadillac SUVs, Corvettes, Chevy SUVs, Prowler, a heap of pickups, Viper, Ferraris, Ford GT, Mustang, Thunderbird, Hummers, Koenigseggs, Lamorghinis, Lincolns, Lotuses, Maseratis, Evo's, Mitsu vans, R34 Skyline, V35 Skyline, M35 Stagea, Choppers, Paganis, Spykers, TVRs. The register is updated when a Registered Automotive Workshop applies for approval for a model. They just aren't applying for approval on many Japanese cars. Approval is also not automatic - it has to be considered not competition to cars sold here already.

I was referring to Jap cars, Miles. =P And im not talking about actual cars being imported, i am talking about actual cars being made. There seems to have been a drop on coupe and "sporty" styled Jap cars of recent...

2nd hand Jap imports yeah, otherwise there are some very decent cars being made nowadays, not necessarily in sports coupe form, but with good performance nevertheless...
