Before I have my rant, I would just like to say, I respect the law, and what the law was intended to do, which is to protect the innocent, and make this place a safer better place to live....

Now, I was on my way to Wyong from Sydney yesterday morning for work to see a client and fix a few of their issues.

Typical Monday morning, everyone is rushing to work, but I am going against the traffic, no issues.

Doing 110 - 114km/h on the freeway, there is a green car that was coming up behind me pretty quick, pulls into the overtaking lane, and starts to pass me, I look across and it's got all the gadgets and garbage, yep, she's an unmarked police car.

Well, hge's going around me, no harm no problems.

In front of me is a Dark coloured 4x4, it's probably about 50 - 60 meters ahead, it's deisel powered, has a slight bit of smoke from the exhaust, pretty standard really.

Anyway, as the Unmkarked police car came up about level with the 4x4, something gives way under the hood of the 4x4, and a massive trail of thick black smoke starts pouring from under the car, and I start getting showered with rather black oil.

Realising that he's either done the motor, or very soon will do the motor, I start fevourishly flashing my high beams at the 4x4 to get him to look in the mirror, which he would then see the smoke, pull over, and hopefully save himself a pitt-ful of money in repairs if he's quick enough.

Anyway, he noticed, hits the hazards and starts to pull over, meanwhile the green Ford FPV hits the anchors pretty hard, and becomes about level with me.

At this stage, my car is covered in oil, so much so that I cant see clearly through the windscreen, so I hit the hazards and pull in behind the 4x4, and the cop car pulls in behind me.

I get out, thinking this officer has seen the issue, he's going to 'assist' us and help with the cleanup and such.

BUT Noooooooooo, I was very wrong, here's how the conversation went with the cop:

TB: Good Morning officer, glad you stopped
Cop: Please get back in your vehicle sir, can I please have your licence.
TB: *Hands licence* What is the issue here officer?
Officer: Did you know it is an offence to use your highbeams during the day, let alone flash other motorists with them?
TB: Your me aren't you, are you blind, I just save the poor guy in front a hell of a lot of money warning him about an issue with his car, didn't you see all the oil??
Officer: What oil, you where warning the guy in front of a police car coming up, which is against the law.
TB: Officer, have a look at the oil covering my car, the fact I had to pull over because I cant safely see through my windscreen anymore, and also look at the poor guy in front with oil dripping under his 4x4, now are you seriously thinking I was warning someone of a cop, if so, your a dropkick!!
Officer: In light of the situation, and the evidence you have provided, I am only going to issue you with a warning for this offence sir, please remain with your vehicle while I check your licence and registration details.
TB to other motorist: That cop's a c*nt!!
4x4 Driver: Mate, you saves me a bucket load, the filter had popped a thread, I still have some oil in the back, so I can get where I need to go, thanks heaps mate!!
TB: The cop is issuing me a warning for flashing my high beams at you
4x4 Driver: No way!!! what a dick!!
Officer: Ok sir, your details are fine, here is your warning, think next time before flashing your headlights.
TB: Yeah, thanks Orifice. Hey Officer, have you got a rag or anything I can get some of this oil off the screen with?
Officer: Nope, we dont carry anything like that, you will have to work it out yourself!.

So, as you can see, I got issued a warning for "inproper use of high beam headlights' when I was trying to help someone out. You wont why people dont want to help anyone else these days when the eyes of the law see you as a criminal for offering your services, what a crock of

I am also writing a letter to the Police commissioner of NSW, and in my letter I am going to pose the question "If I see a vehicle in front of me that is loosing vast amounts of oil onto the cars behind, not to mention the road below, how would be the best way to get that motorist's attention to notify them of their impending problem?"

Again, some cops are great, very decent people, and very honest and helpful, but there are a select few that bring the entire force down.

If he was doing the speed limit, had you sped up to get along side of him you'd have been pinged for dragging lol. Sounds like it's best to just let him oil down the freeway huh.

Yeah, let the car in front oil up the highway, good for when it rains for every other car, truck, or other vehicle that tries to drive down the freeway.

Either way, I got a warning for helping someone out, makes you wonder why we try and help?

Of course you did the right thing Brian and the cop didn't seem interested in hearing your side of the story, but I feel you were leaving yourself open with some of your responses to him.
Most people will feel defensive if confronted with 'are you blind', 'you're a dropkick' etc.
I think he handled the situation fairly well even though he was wrong.

the local cops a c**t up your way huh brian. they're not much better down here either .. friday nights our club hangs out in a very dark corner of a massive public carpark thats free after 5pm and we have every right to be there as we're not disturbing anyone (such as being in the corner and staying there not causing any mischeif) then one idiot in a commodore on his P's comes in and does nuts with all his mates in the car, leaves, the cop sees them, leaves them alone, and comes and kicks us out of the carpark.. then we pretty much have no where to go! f**kers!

Doesn;t surprise me - 90% of cops in this country are wan**rs

I aquaplaned in standing water off of the freeway a few weeks ago and came inches from flipping the car and killing myself.

I'm sitting in the emergency lane with the car in a heap shaking and the cops come, I'm glad to see them so that motorists can see my car more easily sitting in the emergancy lane and not plough into it.

The cop patronises me for 15 minutes before handing me a fine for not being in proper control of my vehicle.

No Sh1t einstein, I was travelling sideways at 95kph, I challenge you to be in control in that situation.

All they were thinkign about was some way of getting money out of me.

What a bunch of dumbasses! The cops sound like they were on their (usual nowadays) powertrip! I'd seriously write a letter to the commissioner hey, ask him to explain how else this situation should have been handled, ffs what are high beams for then? To warn of dangerous situations I would have thought. Sh|tloads of oil pissing down on the road and other cars I'd think qualifies to be a dangerous situation.

If you ever come across a w**ker of a officer that's giving you grief, just (mentally) take down their badge number, then write it down when they leave. You can't miss it too as it sits on their shirt pocket chrome plated.

I had a mate that was getting hounded by a officer a couple of years back for his car, he remembered his number. Then funny enough he was sitting in front of his work on a break, the same officer came driving by in a cop car smoking, and through out this ciggie bud right in front of him out the cop car too.

Lets just say karma prevailed.......

Yeah pretty bad that happened Brian. But mate im surprised you didnt get a fine for some your replys. Cops tend to wait for motorists to get all angry and fired up just so they can issue a fine.

If you gave it a boot to get past the yellow light I could understand where they're coming from but if you coast through (simply because you can't slam on the brakes due to other cars behind you) then I don't see any reason why they can do you over.

I failed my P's test for going through a yellow light - couldn't stop without slamming on the brakes. Next test, light goes yellow so I threw out the boat anchor. The guy wanted to fail me for stopping too suddenly or something too.

The gf and I got pulled over a month ago b/c it was 3:00 am and I was driving a red Porsche, obviously up to no good! I just kept smiling and that just ticked him off more b/c I wasn't doing anything wrong...it was just one of those "I'm going to pull him over and try to find something to justify my actions".
He kept drilling us on where we've been and where we were going. We hadn't had a DROP of liquid refreshment and I just kept telling him it was none of his business. That ticked him off more b/c there was nothing he could do about it.

It's all well and good, I was peeved before, but I am over it now.

I have sent through an email detailing the time, date, officer's badge number, registration number and description of the vehicle, and all the details of the event that occured. I have been polite, I have not accused anyone of anything.

I have also hand-written the same letter, and mailed it to Police Headquarters (stated in the email I was snail-mailing a copy of the letter).

I have stated that I dont wish this to be dealt with as a complaint, but rather a reported chain of events and 'customer' feedback.

I half expected something like this froma nOOb that just got out of Goulburn, but this guy looked seasoned, anyway we will see what happens.

As I said originally, I have all due respect for the Law, and for the Police that uphold the law, but there are some officers that are arrogant f*wits, which brings the entire force down to this hated level.

I remember seeing a cop doing speed trap when I was driving from Chatswood to Fivedock via Hunter's Hill.

Myself and the van in front where flashing the on-coming motorists, that was until I saw the cop car sitting on the onramp to hunter's hill and the cop getting out.

It was a staged setup, the cop with the radar gun was there as the decoy, the other cop was booking everyone flashing the oncomming traffic.

As the van slowed down in the left lane, and everyone else slowed down, right at the last second, I planted the foot, pulled into the right hand lane, and speed off.

Looked in the rear view to the cop jumping up and down yelling and screaming facing my direction.

Never heard anything about it after that, but it was a fright that the mongrels had set up a cop to trap the people warning the other drivers.
