Very sad... but he was an asshole to work for, I guess that's what sold his show...drama. I kinda never liked his work and I know he taught Chip, but I think Chip's attention to detail and his imagination far out did Boyd's, IMO.

The show was make believe. Ive heard he's actually a pretty quiet guy. And yes there was a lot of dodgy stuff that happened around the business side of him over the last couple of decades.
Chip Foose and Jesse James (both his former employees) do work I am more interested in. Not taking anything away from Boyd though, very talented guy. Cadzilla was kick ass and if you like deuce coupes and hot rods like that, he's the man. I'm more of a mid fifties to early seventies kind of guy and I just don't like a lot of the work on those kinds of cars that came out of his shop. Chezoom was... impressive but a bit ugly. The 55 Bel Air they did recently was just very unimaginative and that car has been done so much better by other people. I don't like any of the Mustangs I have seen roll out of his shop. They tend to paint all of their cars one of about 5 colours they stock. On the other hand, Foose will do some cool little custom body touches, then use different shades of colours in imaginative ways. Boyd also seems to spew out a lot of TOTALLY single colour interiors. I like a creative interior, and Foose and James are way more into that. Boyd has just been doing a lot of boring cars for a long time.
Noone can convince me that this is a nice interior to look at or to live with. It looks like a hooker turned inside out.
