Hmmm, I wondr if anyone/any company could offer an agency that accepts parcels and is also a pick up point for transactions made on Bay. Perhaps they could also combine Western Union into it?

As in, you walk in to your local agent (Newsagency, authorsied sub-agent, post office, independent supermarket etc..) with your parcel, pay the fees, and its delivered to the recipients neighbourhood/country agency.

They go in, pay cash/credit card etc.. and pick up their parcel after theyve been notified its arrived.

Maybe even introduce the "C-THRU (TM) CARDBOARD BOX" hahah

Kind of an "un-virtual" escrow/auction house/freight agency.

Perhaps a private enterprise postal system? (would never happen, govt never allow it)

The fees could well be a lot higher, as the agency's take a cut, plus there would be size limits at certain points. But it would make for a possibly safer alternative, for those who wish to pay. You'd still have the standard paypal/private delivery stuff, but this would be an alternative.

I always thought COD through Post Offices worked this way?

ie, you pay some $$ service charge and have the person deliver money to the local post office, then they release the package to them?

Yep and COD is still an avilable option I believe?

Anyway, I don't mind paying the extra for Paypal if they've raised their limit to $20,000.

Never bought a thing off (Fe)ebay. I prefer to deal with people, so if I have to I can reach out and 'touch' them. It has always seemed like a rip off to me and now it is policy.

I think its a good move personally. I would only use PayPal because it adds an extra level of security to questionable sellers.

However, there are other payment agencies, like Paymate, credit card and Bpay, all of which contain varying protections rather than simply dropping money into a random bank account.

eBay is excluding anything except their wholly owned subsidiary, PayPal, or cash. They make a few percent on PayPal additional to all other fees.

Like Aaron said in the title, it looks like third line forcing.

I wouldn't mind so much if they would lover the cost of paypal.. But when you sell the cost is just to much. Now you get forced to use it for anything but local pickup.. not on.

What would stop you with declaring the payment option as COD and then arranging with the person to use bank details?

Feedback, or complaint to eBay.

You are obliged to list PayPal even before it becomes effectively the only payment method.

I do not use eBay very much now. Never buy there any more and sell rarely. I expect that activity will drop to zero now, not objecting to the fees as such but to the draconian insistence that things be done, for both buying and selling, in certain ways which are not necessary to their business model nor for security of the process.
