I need some help from those that may know. The problem is.....
From internet explorer and firefox,I can get into every web site I want to, but if I try to get into any site to do with paypal it just times out. I had to pay for something using paypal via ebay checkout and it just timed out. I thought the site was down but I went to the local shops that have $2 internet and I paid for the item using that machine without any trouble. I can't get into paypal.com or paypal.com.au or anything to do with paypal.

Update... I just plugged the router in and the boy from across the road bought his laptop over. He can get into paypal using optus but when he logs into my telstra, using the router, it times out. Must be a telstra big pond(of crap) problem!!

Reset your router (ring your ISP and they will walk you through this over the phone). The other easier option which I would try first is simply to turn your router off for a good few hours (the longer the better) and then when you turn it back on you'll probably have a different IP allocated (assuming you're not paying Telstra for a static IP) and that might solve the problem.

The router was unplugged when I first had this problem. I only put it back into action to see if it was my computer. As the laptop couldn't get into paypal either, I figured that it wasn't my computer. I could unplug the cable modem for a few hours and see if I get a new ip address. I rang the bigpond help desk and he said they have no problems and I should clear my cookies or get onto paypal. I suppose paypal could be blocking my ip address. God knows why!!

Graham, based on the info given, it's a Telstra problem.
An international fibre has been cut near Sydney which may be a factor (or not), it's due to be repaired by 5:00pm.
Some problems can be cured by switching the modem off for 15 minutes, as this causes the DSLAM in the exchange to do a reset on your line. Waiting a couple of hours shouldn't make much difference.
