personally i dont particularly like these cars, however, my old man has offered me to go half half with him in buying my brother in law's old MX. we're getting it for about $1K.
the plan is that we're going to gut it out completely, strip back all paint work, fix any dents, get a new soft top, mind you i'm pushing for a detachable hard top, doing a full leather interior etc.
the old man also wants to drop a turbo into the car... i was shocked at this considering who it was coming from however was not displeased in the slightest.
now here is the problem, i want to research on aftermarket parts to chuck in the MX but i dont know where to start, i'm a complete car noob. would you all be able to help me in direction to what's good what's not what site has the best stuff for turbos, exhaust systems, intercoolers, fluffy dice :-P and really, what would suit/fit an MX5.
currently i'm not too sure of the year of make, but i'm guessing its a 5 year old model.

There are some great MX5/Miata forums around. There are also an absoulte of aftermarket specialist suppliers for them, and some of them aren't even gay!
Honestly though, they are great cars. Not my cup of tea either though as I've seen myself driving one and it just looked wrong.
the 1uz is the toyota/lexus 4 litre V8, is obviously a power upgrade over standard but requires a lot of work on the support systems (brakes, suspension etc). Doesn't make much more power in standard form than you could get out of FI for the 1.6 or 1.8

Yes, 1UZ v8 option not ideal for those on a budget. I dont profess to knowing much about mx-5's,but probably make sense to play with exhaust/intake first then if funds permit forced induction as John suggests be it turbo or supercharged. perhaps there maybe an mx-5 club that may assist you.

1k is so cheap if you dont want it ill take it
I had one of these with the hard top and the car allthough too small for me it was a pleasure to chuck it around very responsive handling wise but needed more power...

yeah we're not 1UZing it, not for funds reasons, just cos from the start my midlife crisis partner in MX5 crime decided to drop a turbo in it... that and i like the sucking air sound as well as the blow off noises
