ahhh you bunch of sooks! I just did a 2500+km two week road trip of France and i was paying Euro 1.55/ litre = $2.55/litre AU.
The interesting thing was crossing the border into Switzerland to visit Geneva, the fuel price dropped from 1.60/litre to 1.97SWF = 1.0 Euro/litre = $2.00/litre AU. So that different countries have massive taxes on fuel.

Dyno-proven, Octane booster does sweet FA.
TEsted with the same car, normal 92 Ron, 95kw at the rubber, 95 Ron, and 2 degree advanced timing, 98Kw at the rubber, 98 Ron, 100Kw at the rubber.
95 Ron with Octane booster, and we only got 97Kw, we lost power with fuel that should have easily had the octane levels required for the timing mod.
Similar car (same engine, kms, mods without advanced timing) on 95 Ron, it got 95Kw. we poured octane booster in, but still only got the same.
Also, on the 2nd car, we where monitoring knock levels on both sets of dyno runs through a SAFC II fuel computer (not intercepting, just monitoring), and the knock levels did not change between runs, so even pinging was uneffected.
At $10/litre roughly for octane, it's $10 you would get more effect from rolling up and smoking like a cigarette than putting it in your tank and thinking your doing good.

Dave, have you looked at Venezuela lately?
They are paying a WHOLE 17cents per US gallon....WTF!
ps: Mind you, it could be crap gas.............but never the less....
Yeah spot on Don, they have always been well of with their own fuel..... But as you say it would be interesting to know what the quality is like!
On another matter it's quite a worry with India & China's growing appetite for oil as of in recent years compared to 50 years ago when they were rather low key compared to the rest of the world in the industrial sense.
At this rate countries like that which keep producing more junk at a high cost to the environment is quite worrying..... all you need to do is visit the places, they certainly dont do much about pollution its disgusting! Ehhh!

Of course both Venezuela and China's governments subsidise fuel costs, and Venezuela has vast oil resources.
In NZ we do everything opposite - export most of our oil and gas, then import other peoples petrol and oil, and then the government adds $0.51 cents per litre, plus 12% GST on the total (so a further $0.06 is tax on a tax.) And more taxes to come later in the year.

Hmmmm its absurd how it works really. Very costly and inefficient for everyone. I feel sorry for large companies with large vehicle fleets, the increasing running costs would be horrendous laid out on a yearly comparison!
Shall be interesting to see how much the oil issue will play in the fast approaching 2008 NZ Election too....... hopefully National can come to the rescue some how.... but I wont be holding my breath for that - time will tell I suppose.

Trust me, its just as bad over here state side. I broke down and got a motorcycle to help on the gas prices.. its gets almost double what my Lancer does, but still, its a gouge to the pocket book!
