BUT, my old digicam sucks for printed photos, and for the budget I had, I don't think I would've been happy getting rims (just yet anyway)... so I went out and bought myself a Canon 350D... I love this thing! It's and entry level DSLR but it does the job quite nicely, 8.0MP with auto and manual focus and can do A3 sized photos with ease (no loss of image quality when printed at that size either). It came with an EF-S 18~55mm lens but I want to get a 55~200mm lens plus a macro lens for good quality close up pictures.

Very happy :-)

They're great cameras, I've been holding out for a while but I'm real happy that I got it now. Still playing around with it trying to find a good white balance when taking night shots.

I got a SanDisk 1Gb flash card. It'll hold about 250 (off the top of my head) big/full resolution pictures, or about 700 small/full resolution pictures :-) I'm keen on getting different lenses for it like the EF 24-85mm and the EF12 macro extension tube too for good close up shots.

Yea dude, it's a point n shoot camera as opposed to a DSLR (ie. it's easier to use compared to a DSLR), pretty high resolution too (7.1MP). I would've gone for something like that but I need something with a manual focus and interchangeable lenses etc etc.

Jose - not really easier to use...Canons DSLR's all have scenic modes just like a P&S camera. They just do a LOT more IF you want it to.

I have a 300D, with THIS sucker hanging off it:
http://www.canon.com.au/products/visual/cameras_lenses_accessories/standard_zoom_lenses/ef24-70mm%25 20f2.8l%2520usm.html

Greatest thing I ever did with it was bought the 24-70f/2.8L. It's just a little heavy for a walkaround lens.

Are you looking at EXCELLENT quality prints? Or just pretty good?
If you want excellent, I'd be going for the 70-200f/4L instead of the 55-200. Expensive, but damned worth it. The 55-200 is a bit soft for me, and slow auto-focus.

agree with Jason, save a little for a faster lens, you will be glad you did in the end.

I'm happy with my D70, but like anything around the $2k price range, canon or nikon DSLRs are great

Thanks Jason, I'll look into that (bloody hell that 24~70 lens is expensive lol).

Good choice Jose. I got myself an Olympus E-300 DSLR. It does the job quite well, i think its quite quick too, but wouldnt mind upgrading to another lens. mine was cheaper because i bought it here in Japan. it cost me around 600 bucks... i know they cost a crap load more back in australia.

You know what i realised though, Its not the camera that takes good pictures its the Photographer, i soo got ripped off hahahaa....

Hey how about we have a thread for pictures. Not just car related but anything that we think looks good.??
