Hi everyone, I am off to the US around mid August, leaving from Perth to San Francisco via Tokyo. I have an overnight stay in Tokyo and would like to know the top spots to go to. I am into electronic gadgets and the like, so if anyone here can give me a quick guide I would greatly appreciate it.I also think I have another night on the way home and might even extend that to a couple of days.

Akihabara.
Follow the Yamanote train line to it from Tokyo Central station. This line does a loop around the inner city (like our CAT busses) + go to Super Autobacs if you can.

Thanks Adam, sounds interesting, I am booking my flight in a day or two so I'll get more of an idea exactly how long I am staying on the way there. Um Ben, I am not into school girls panties, somehow the girl I am going to see in the US might find it a bit disturbing if I rock up with a pair, any other ideas are welcome but lets stick to electronics please.

Although i'm not sure of the exact location.
Upstairs in some seedy looking store in the "adult" shopping area of Shinjuku if memory serves correct!
Tee hee, Adam! ;)
I never ventured in the store. I was too scared of what i might find =P
Places to see, if you are a Toyota fanboy, should definitely include the Toyota Mega Web show floor at Palette town. They have cars you can test drive (bring international drivers license), a simulator you can stuff around in, displays of all current model cars (including Lexus models), a technology and innovation exhibition which has some cool stuff and a small museum (small compared to their main museum in Nagoya that is =P)
Afterwards take a stroll through Palette town (They are literally right on top of each other) and check out an awesome upper class shopping centre.
If you fancy yourself a bit of a Sega fan as well, Sega have an indoor theme park a little ways walk from Palette town called Sega Joypolis (http://sega.jp/joypolis/tokyo/home_e.shtml). It's filled to the brim with arcade machines, indoor thrill rides, moving cinemas and walk through haunted houses. It's quite similar to Sega World which used to be in Sydney if you ever went.
If you are just in it for the arcade aspect though, right next to the Toyota Mega Web is a massive arcade with more than what Joypolis has.
Akihabara imo is very *yawn*. Im a massive geek/nerd/whatever and spent probably a day just buying all tonnes of from that place, but you can easily skip it and not feel left out of Japanese crazyness.
Thats all i can think of right now.
If you have have time to kill and are genuinely interested, the Disney parks are WELL WORTH a day at each. If you have been to a Disney land before then hotfoot it to Disney Sea next door. GOD DAMN!

Is that the multi-storey one? lol
Kicking myself that I didn't go to Toyota Mega Web... Check out Harajuku for some crazy fashion sense, Akihabara for electronic gizmos. Funny that I didn't see many modified cars in Tokyo/Chiba though... Osaka was a different story.
