How's this to end an awesome night:
Yesterday I had the craziest day in a long time. One of my favourite bands of all time, Dismember, were doing an in-store signing at a shop in Nth Essendon and no way was I letting that one slip. Waited forever, but got to meet the guys and get some of my stuff signed. Sweet!
Later on they played one of the craziest shows I've ever seen at the Hi Fi Bar. I was up at front row, headbanging like hell with the guys, shaking hands with them during the show and generally having a blast. But all good things come to an end, thankfully with my favourite Dismember song, "Dreaming in Red".
Then this happened:
My partner and I left the venue at about 1:15am and headed down Swanston St to where the Soarer was parked. I was raving about how damn good the gig was, and how much Dismember rip balls when a silver late model Falcon came SCREAMING down Collins St, with a huge drift onto Swanston, with a cop car in hot pursuit. He then executed a pretty average handbrake 180 which resulted in him smashing into some stuff on the side of the street. Tons of tyre smoke, and a massive crash noise upon hitting the stuff on the footpath. Thank god nobody got hit.
He took off up Swanston in the direction of Flinders St at a minimum of 100km/h, and got into a whopper of a smash with a Statesman outside the Flinders St station. The Falcon spun around at least twice, smashing into a taxi and tearing the front bar off it. The Falcon came to a halt and by then, several Police cars had already arrived on the scene.
By the time we got down there to have a gander (as you do), the Statesman driver and cabbie were being treated for shock and the driver of the Falcon was in Police custody. The airbags had been deployed in the Statesman which suggests a pretty damn hard hit, and both the driver and passenger doors on the Falcon were concaved at least 12 inches. Coolant sprayed across half the intersection, and there were remnants of all three cars scattered everywhere. We hung around for about 10 minutes, long enough for the Feds to show up, hear a traffic cop call a cabbie a "f&$%ing moron", and see the idiot driving the Falcon get hauled away by the cops.
I'm definitely grabbing a copy the Herald Sun tomorrow! It was way too late last night for anything to be in the paper this morning, so I'll check it out tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Glad to hear no one was hurt... why was the cop calling the cabbie a moron ??
He'd directed a few cars left from Swanston on to Flinders and the cabbie decided to try and sneak through, almost hit the cop who was turning around to direct other cars through the intersection.
Apparently last night there was a small clip of the story on the news, but nothing in the paper today. Hmmm...
On the news they said he'd run a red light and was doing a runner from the cops when the prang happened.
