Hey all,
Not sure if this should go here or under "events".
Basically, I have built a billy cart for my son and I to enter in the Gresford billy cart derby at easter next year. I have made two and am onto my third (no- I don't know when to stop!). I have built them a lot faster than I expected, and we are looking for an event to take the carts to for a run.
Does any one know of any events coming up? Within a couple of hundred k's of Newcastle would be preferable. The second cart is scary fast and I (sorry - my son) would like to see how it goes against some competition.

I've been thinking about starting up some cult sect of extreme billy cart racing with some mates... we've got some crazy hills around Bendigo. Riding wheely bins is too risky nowadays!

hey ben, that sounds like a hoot. my boy is little but ive been thinking of how i might construct a billy cart for him in the future. If you have any links to building advice or events would be keen to hear. Thanks.

Looks like you had toe in/out adjustments, going for camber/caster this time? Might help on those tight corners
Although to be honest, I have suffered the fate of an ill aligned front end. Did wonder as a kid why I couldn't keep what should have been a faster cart (ball bearing bike wheels etc.) from getting the speed wobbles and roll with the smallest of turns on the wheel

I am actually toying with the idea of adjustable camber on the front end. I am thinking threaded rod and a turnbuckle joining the two 'towers'. More of a way of keeping it straight as opposed to tuneability. The last cart (#2) has shocking toe in on the right rear. Thats the problem when you shop for parts at the local rubbish tip. All part of the fun. I will eventually fix it.
As for speed wobbles or stability issues I must have fluked it because it is pretty fast at maybe-I-should-be-wearing-a-helmet speeds

Hehe, I was bagging my little brother out for stacking it and he told me to have a go. I held it longer, which meant I was going _a lot_ faster when I stacked, meaning the the hay bail didn't stop me. Ended, upside down in a bush beside the track. Few grazes and a bruised ego.

I have a spare bike speedo. I might fit it to #2 and see how it goes on the little hills around here. Unfortunately it is too big to fit in the back of the subi, so I cant really take it to any decent hills. This is part of the reason I'm building #3, trying to make it more compact but still meet the rules. (being min wheelbase 900mm, min track 700mm)
