Hey all, I am moving to Gladstone with my bf, my cousin and his girlfriend coz we're sick of getting nowhere and my bf has pretty much got work lined up, up there. Is there anyone here from that area? Got any info? I also need to get a job so if anyone has any tips or ANYTHING about the area or where I could apply for work...anything will help coz I am really panicking about leaving my current job and going into nothing...
ALSO, my rego is due in Sept for my Soarer, not sure what to do about it when it comes around whether to re-rego it in NSW or transfer to QLD. Any thoughts, ideas??

Kelly, I'm from Gladstone. There is heaps of work up here for tradesmen (Boilermaker, Fitter, Electrician etc)other areas are a bit quiet. There will be a couple of large construction projects starting next year so everything will boom again. What jobs are you looking for? Let me know when you get here and I'll see if I can help out.

Well my bf is a pressure welder and he has got a job lined up...I am currently working as an office assistant and am probably looking for something like that, but I have worked in retail, I have a HS (dump truck) license and I also have diplomas etc in info tech...so anything I guess! I'll even do cleaning, just something so I can sleep at night coz I'm so scared of not finding work!!
My cousin and his gf are going up too...he's a boilermaker so he should be okay and she works in a bar and does waitressing...are there a few bars and cafe's etc around?

Who has your bf got a job with? I know a couple of the local workshops who are looking for Boilermaker/welders. I'm and ex Boilermaker, but do IT and welding/paint inspections as well. I will ask around for you.

He has a welding test on Mon with Downer EDI and he has also been in contact with RCR who he has worked for down here...they seem keen too. I think he's also spoken to a few other companies too, but not certain who they are. Apparently RCR are keen for some office assistants too which is good for me, but I really wanna know I have a good chance of getting something.

Kelly - If you want to get them to try Steve Powell (Workshop foreman) at Walz Construction, the link has details. http://www.walzconstruction.com/contactUs/index.html They get some good work and pay well. Steve said just go to the front office and ask for him and say I recommended them.

I know a young boilermaker, first year as a tradesman was on $28, so I'm sure an experienced person would be $30 +. With tradesman in such high demand up here you would get whatever you asked for. Let me know how they go.

Yeah...I have been all down Goondoon Street and spoken to all the recruitment companies...(there's heaps there!) so yeah, I am just calling all the big companies and workshops now to see if anyone's looking. I'll have to go door knocking next! My rego is due in Sept so I am really starting to stress now!
