The scenario is: The earth is overpopulated and death for millions by starvation is inevitable. The government asks for those that are willing, to give their lives at 10am next Tuesday. Are you one of those?

Interesting scenario mike I believe you need to classify me factors into it because I believe that 99% of people wouldn't give their life up for the sake of others, especially if those others are people they dont know or haven't met. Sure, people might give their life up for their friends and family but there's no way you can guarantee it was just for them unless you went to each and every family and picked someone. How about we stop feeding the crims in jail and rather than give them furnished rooms with TV's and a weights yard, just kill them instead ? Being a firm believer in capitol punishment I believe if people dont want to obey the law (to some extent, as EVERYONE breaks the law at 1 stage or another) then rather than send them to jail where they are a drain on tax payers dollars, hang them instead ? Im talking about murderers, rapists, repetitive thieves etc people who just dont give a about society and other people. My boss actually started a discussion like this at work not long ago and he made the suggestion of a worldwide age cap. In a way it was a bit twisted cause we all love the elderly and we can learn so much from them but he suggested that 80 years was a good crack at life and that if you made it to that age then you should be "terminated" was the word he used. It got a lot of shock responses but he re-affirmed everyone he didn't agree with it (and neither did I) and that it was just a suggestive scenario but as much as I didn't agree with it it made sense. Retire at 60 - 65, live it large off your super and have fun in the last 15 years of your life then move on as it would greatly decrease the population growth etc.

Well, I know where I am going when I die, so dying isn't the problem for me. This is a very interesting question though. But here are my moral dilemmas. a. If I volunteer to die, even tho someone else is going to kill me, would that be counted as suicide? Since I am willing and volunteered to die? b. By volunteering to die I am also causing someone else to commit murder am i not? Which of course, murder is very very wrong in most peoples morals, so it's a hard one. Good question Mike lol @ 10 past response haha

All non western 3rd world countries would be were the deaths would occur. It's going to happen in time anyway, in the likes of Africa and India - just look at the stats in those areas, it can only get worse with time. So quite obviously I wouldn't die for that. Ill be around for 100's of years.

I wouldnt. I've been kind of a fan of living since.....well as long as I can remember. Whilst a scenario like this could never eventuate, if it did, and no one volunteered, they would probably *choose* who dies etc.. But it wouldn't affect me. I own firearms.

| I would NOT volunteer my death for a stranger. I would volunteer my death to save/protect my wife. I own firearms, and WILL use them to defend all that I hold precious. I am 55, and am quite happy with the whole DEATH thing.................I've had a full and interesting life to date, and if it were suddenly to end.............So be it!. | At the very least, you would want to know the method of termination. Jumping off a building, or into a tub of boiling oil so that no-one actually kills you, or being shot or electrocuted would probably have less appeal than eg., being overdosed on Viagra then fooked silly until your heart gave out. |
