Although I prefer the MotoGP, I scored free tickets to yesterday's practice and qualifying sessions and I was thoroughly impressed. The TV does no justice to the sound and speed of the cars... you just wonder how the hell the drivers can hang on to that thing around some of those corners.

I'll be there next year.. but it still doesn't mean I'll follow the sport closely. MotoGP still kicks it's arse!

F1 Rocks they reckon there are three things that are comparible to drive:

Formula 2
Formula 3
Go Karts - Seriously

Hehehe I love being a Karter!

Nascar is LAME
F1 is the pinnicle of motorsport therefore the best! good race though.... Kubica and Vettel are idiots and shame about Webber being taken out in a first corner incedent with Barichello

oh well theres always malaysia

Flew back from Melbourne last night after a week at the Grand Prix. My first F1 race and my first trip to Melbourne. The main thing I will remember is sitting along the pit straight with an F1 screaming along at full stick. The noise is just unbelievable. Completely different to the V8 and GT races that I'm used too. You can actually feel your eardrums vibrating (not like all those pussies that were wearing ear-plugs )

Also, well done to the organisers for managing the flow of people from the CBD to Albert Park and back in a timely manner.

Hey Dave it was a pity you never got to hear the turbo'd F1's at full noise down the straight in Adelaide.

The noise was even more ear shattering back in the good old days.

I got back from Melbourne last night! also my first ever F1 trip, and I'll definitely be going again, and again! I also had grandstand tickets and the pit lane walk, which i have to say was the biggest let down of the whole weekend; none of the garages were open! I have to agree, nothing compares to the sound of an F1 car at full song down the straight while standing right up against the fence, my ears were still ringing hours later at the hotel!
An absolute dream finish for me, i was so impressed with the 2 Brawn GP cars over the whole 4 days, i personally thought no other team had anywhere near the pace.
Highlight for me: scaling the fence all the way to the top for great pics of the awards ceremony

I was working at the GP all four days (5 including the "exclusive Wednesday"), checking tickets on the Fangio grandstand, so you might have seen me. We had to wear earplugs at all times when the F1s were out for health and safety, fair enough too.

The pit lane walk was the biggest joke i've seen in a while. Thousands lines up all the way from the pits, around Fangio, past the merch tents and out of gate 1. All to see shut garages.

Great race, only problem was those yahoos trying to scale the fences. :-P

i was in the Fangio stand on the Thursday Alex, so i may have actually seen you! Was your soarer one of the two i saw parked on Fitzroy St almost every day over the 4days?
gave up on going to my stand on Sunday and decided to spend the whole day in the 2nd GP advantage bar.
NASCAR is for drivers too dumb to go around a real track and are scared they might get lost! "OK, lets see here, around and around and around......."BORING!!!!!

I always get this "around and around" excuse from everyone who says NASCAR is boring or doesn't like it.
No one has ever offered up a different excuse.

hmmm I think the catalyst that makes NASCAR bad is the race is cancelled when it rains... waht sort of car racing do you call that? Its the only form of motorsport that gets cancelled when it a bit damp LAME!!

I will concede however it does take skill to race on oval tracks, One could argue less skill than on a street circuit. However I believe it is just a different skill. People like Yuan Pablo Montoya have not been that successful in NASCAR and he's an alright F1 Driver.

Pecking Order of motorsport(4 wheel):
Open Wheel - F1, indy/champ, F2, F3, Formula ford/holden/toyota etc..
Touring and Sports car racing - GT Championships, Lemans series, V8 Supercars, Porsche and other 1 make series.
NASCAR
Karting
Speedway
Demo Derby + Stock Car

My thoughts anyway

I know nothing, but my business partner is an ex NASCAR driver from the days of Thunderdome and is currently driving an Elfin in the F5000 Tasman Revival series - which you'd have seen at the GP (by the way, THERE'S something that screams "V8 roar").

He has said it to me with unashamed bias and something like this:

NASCAR takes balls of steel and is genuine racing rather than just a really fast procession. There's nothing quite the same as having a concrete wall six inches away on one side and another blokes doorhandle two inches away on the other at 200+mph wondering to yourself "Do I give him a nudge or don't I?" and coming up with the answer "Yup, I will."

Now he also loves open wheeler stuff, but for him the pinnacle of all motor sport is the Indianapolis 500.

So yeah, different skills, different things that turn each of us on. Vive la difference.

Noted Ryan. That is a first.
Or F1 gets shortened. Wet weather can cancel or shorten a lot of motorsport.
