Are you aware of the NRMA’s Roadtube initiative?
While I am skeptical of it, I have taken up their suggestion of lobbying my local representative and sent them the attached e-mail:
" (politician’s name) you may be aware of the NRMA online initiative known as Roadtube. Apart from posts like 'my street is bumpy' and 'all drivers are scum and should die', there are a number of consistent themes.
- Speed traps – there is an ongoing speed trap discussion – the ‘do they work or not' debate - Policing for anything other than speeding (over policed)/drinking (no problem with that)/bus lanes is dangerously absent. - Driver education - Abysmal drivers. NO situational awareness, right hand lane hogs, tailgaters, not indicating and lack of understanding of roundabouts are common themes. - Road infrastructure – absence of cycle lanes, trucks clogging roads during peak hour with the subsequent road user aggravation.
This is just my summary, others will differ. Regardless of opinion, the Roadtube site appears to reflect dissatisfaction with and a disconnect between authorities (the 'supplier') and those who use the roads. In the commercial world we would all find another supplier, but of course in this case we have no choice and this is perhaps why we are so very angry. Road rage appears to be on the increase, driver standards and ordinary road manners appear to be in decline too, and this is a slippery slope.
I invite you to have a look at the Roadtube site and read what people are saying – regardless of opinion expressed it indicates extreme dissatisfaction. "
