As the title says which type of transmission puts more shock and is harsher on the diff and driveline. Because I reckon its a manual because their is no slippage of the a torque converter and more direct drive to the wheels. But my mate reckons its auto which I think is bullshit.

Auto will also consume more power, it's not because of the torque converter as there is a lockup clutch in there which you can activate (lock it solid). It is because of the oil pump in the transmission which has to supply oil and pressure to the clutch packs so gears are engaged, this oil pump needs power to drive it, around 30hp.

My main point with my comment was more along the lines that the Soarer or SC300/SC400 was designed to fir the luxury market. Since most luxury cars come with enhanced performance they of course will do better than your standard cars from the same era...
But if you want a car bred for the track you have to look to your Supras, your Skylines.. etc.
I think a Soarer could be compared to something like a Nissan 350z of our era; decent performance but not built to go as fast as possible.
