It's been over 5 years since I was booked for speeding, I just came back from a holiday in NZ and while I was there I got booked.
Driving from Queenstown to Milford Sound in our hire car (Commodore SV6, a bigger bucket I've never driven)
Came to a near stop as there was a sheep and two lambs right on the side of the bitumen, so I crept past and then sped back up to a shade under 110kmh - we're about an hour and a half from queenstown by this time and I'm on a downhill run on a completely straight bit of road.
I look in the rearview and see lights, I look down and figured it wasn't me, I was only doing about 112kmh when I looked. Get pulled over, cop books me for 116kmh (I'm SURE it's only cos I'm an Aussie, I should have told him how much care I took to avoid hitting the sheep!!)
So I'm thinking, this sucks.. when he hands me the ticket
$120!
only $120!!!
16kmh over is almost loss of license in Victoria now! The thing that really me is my mate was driving the daybefore and had been doing 160kmh! argh!
Tips for travellers - if you're gonna speed in an English speaking country, do it in NZ :D

Challenge it - then they have to fly either 1) You to the court room, or 2) The officer to you (in this case it would be 1) - they wont bother, you'll get a letter saying its been waved.
