Just wanted to know if any of you guys know of any cool hacked firmwares out there for it. I know theres ipodlinux for it but its still extremely buggy (it'd be cool to play doom on a small little ipod). Let me know

i heard ipod nano's have problems with the screen cracking on them. there have been a fair few returns to apple for new screens, apparently they just crack, even from just sitting in your pocket. Apple replaced all the faulty ones that have been returned, so its not really a drama if it does happen, apple are pretty good with their returns, i got a brand new 4g 20gb after i dropped mine in the gutter and cracked the disk.

Also the plastic used on the nano compared to the other's in the iPod family is VERY soft. Lots of complaints about it getting scratched to hell even using protective covers.
Quote "While Apple tries hard at every release of a new product to keep things fresh and innovative, the design of the iPod nano had to take on some new design techniques that no other iPod has seen. To make the nano as thin as it is, Apple had to use a thin film of resin, much thinner than past iPods that use a strong thick plastic coating."

Sorry about my ambiguity Perry, but my "it" referred to the iPod case, not the screen. You referred to "the plastic used on the Nano" without reference to case or screen and I assumed you meant the case so I made a special exception of the screen when I talked about "it", the case. The sites you quote bear me out, referring only to the screen as a problem or as changed. Follow links about the place and you will find the Nano case is fine.
I have not bought a Nano as my 60GB Photo is still fairly new and doing a great job but I would have no qualms about buying one if we needed it.

Ok guys. finally got my ipod and did enough research to figure out how to do cool things with it.
After installing ipod linux i can get videos to run (uncompressed though), the original doom to play along with other games plus i can now use it to boot as a portable operating system.
anyways for those of you who have ipods and don't have a mac you can install ipod linux the way i did but bear in mind if you want to connect to it via an ethernet link you must use firewire as opposed to usb.
