There has been a spate of road deaths in our area lately, So the Police came down for this weekend to "sort us out". Candy car scoots out of town to catch mister motorist, finds one speeding in the opposite direction, and decides to do a U turn and give chase. Rule number one-Look in your mirrors before turning. He gets T boned by a log truck that was following him. One less candy car to bother us.

Don, I had a look at the accident site today, and it looks like the truck tried to avoid him. Apparently it took the whole front off the candy car. Cop OK, but no doubt will have a few questions to answer!!

They get very good training.
I favour skills training for drivers because I believe that you need to act confidently and predictably on the road. Unskilled drivers and over-confident drivers are not reliable. However, studies show little if any evidence that skills training reduces accident rate. Accidents usually have more to do with judgment which demands concentration.
This cop failed the concentration test. They are taught the drill "course, mirror and signals, brakes, gears and mirror, evasive action, go" When those steps (there are some variations in the words and between States) become habitual then those blunders become very unlikely. Possibly he was tired. Fatigue, like alcohol, saps concentration and judgment.

The Police had driven down from Adelaide the previous day. They stay in one of the motels in town. Accident happened at 8.15am. Maybe on the turps the night before.
