Hi Guys,

Firstly Merry Christmas to all.

I have been offered a company vehicle from my new employer so sadly it is almost time for me to part way with the Soarer. The predicament is such that i must choose another car. I will sell the Soarer plus the missus' Camry and buy 1 car to suit both out needs, mainly mine.

I have narrowed it down to either a Toyota Aristo or a leap onto the dark side, Nissan V-35 Skyline.

What are some of your thoughts on either car? i am open to all opinions so please don't be shy.

The Soarer will be listed for sale soon. 1991 White GT Limited.

The budgets differ considerably from and Aristo ($6k-$16k) and V35 Skyline coupe ($23k-?).
And there's the years as well. If you have the money you can buy a second hand 2007 Skyline but the latest Aristo you can get is 1997.
Do you want 4 doors or 2? Of course you can get a 4 door Skyline (either 8 speed paddle shift or 5 speed auto or 6 speed manual).
Do you want something relatively new or something at least 12 years old.
Of course the best of both worlds would be a late model GS300 TT. Very rare, but come up from time to time.
Hope this helps to confuse you even more.

haha thanks Mike.

budget for either car is around 15k for Aristo and 25k for Skyline.

i am not worried about doors as it is a case of FIFO. The 8 speed would be magic as i want the manual and the missus wants the auto.

age is a consideration and both cars have unique features. I love the power plant of the Aristo and of course the Toyota factor but its styling is lacking. I guess that is just the decade' difference in styling.

Grab the Skyline. They are pretty much the same mechanical base as the 350z and decked out with some great luxo features.

The Aristo is a great idea on paper, however despite the 2jz and Soarer/Supra style chassis they just dont feel like quick enough for what they should be.

For that price range, just get a Subaru Liberty 3.0R. Plus it's only 5-6years old.

Ben, if you fit OK into your Limited I think you'll find the Skyline is even less squeezy.

Well guys it is the end of an era as i sold my Soarer today. Listed the car on carsales 30/12/09 just before i left for Renmark for a week not expecting it to get much interest for a while, based on our for sale section and the subsequent price drops and comments.

This suited me as i had some fixes i wanted to do for the new owner. The EMV was stuffing up again so i was in contact with Damian Ware to fix it and the drivers side door skin was cracked which i had called a guy who can fix them 'as new' just before Christmas but he was unavailable until later this week.

As i was driving up the freeway i received a call about the car and explained i would not be back until 3/1/10 and i would arrange a viewing when i got back. My phone was out of range for the days i was away and when i got back within range i was surprised to be greeted by approximately 8 voice and text messages relating to the car, over and above the first call. I decided i would not try to call back until i got home as it was easier to manage but still more calls came in.

One guy was very keen without even seeing the car he was offering a cash sale site unseen that night. I explained there was a cue of people and the guy who called first would get first option.

A few hours out from home the first guy called back and we arranged a viewing time this morning.

In the mean time my phone was running hot with many people wanting to see the car. One bloke made reference to how rough the half dozen or so cars were that he had looked at and how mine looked clean, which of course it is, barring the EMV & door trim plus some minor paint blemishes. The instant cash sale site unseen guy called back about 4 times trying to push in the cue and i had an email waiting for me when i got home.

So feeling chuffed with the interest I decided to stop off and visit the outlaws in the Barossa and took my brother outlaw for a drive and i could not believe it but he was not aware that the doors lock automatically so of course when we stopped he wrenched at the interior door handle and snapped it clean off. Much swearing later i now had to not only detail the car at 10pm when i got back in but now get to the wreckers early this morning to buy a replacement and fit.

The first guy visited with his girlfriend at 9:30am and we had a good chat about the car and its history, showed him the features the car has and of course took the car for a test drive. We got around the block and back into my street but pulled over to the side of the road and the guys offered me $500 less than my asking price without me having to do any of the fixes. I am very happy with the price i achieved and felt it was fair considering the touch ups and repairs required. DONE DEAL!!!

So it is with some sadness my soaring days are over. I am a little lost without the old girl and am having some separation anxiety already.

The decision for me now is somewhat made as for transport Monday to Friday as work are providing a car. I am still working out what the weekend car will be but the V36/37 Skylines are looking like an interesting option. It is going to be hard to leave the T brand but it might make me appreciate it even more.

I might suggest to those who are looking to sell their car to present it in the best possible light without outlining all the faults for the 'tire kickers' and 'non buyers' to pick the out of and talk down the asking price. The only person you have an onus to is yourself and the purchaser. The purchaser can make their own mind up about what is good, what is bad and what they are prepared to pay.

I would like to thank the Soarer Central community for its wealth of knowledge and detail about these magnificent motor vehicles. I will probably linger on the forum for some time as i am still enthusiastic about these cars and this forum, plus i have made some good friendships along the way.

Thanks Peter, Anika and Ian.

Ian it is said writing an Ad is one of the hardest things to do, especially when emotionally involved with the product and also as we can be our own worst critic. If you want a hand writing your Ad i am more than happy to help or get a friend to look at it for you.

Good luck with it.

Thanks Ben. I have a bad habit of knocking my for sale vehicles, and have been told several times that the product was actually better than described.
I dont like ripping people off, as I dont like being ripped off.
Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
