Hey folks,

I have an R31 Skyline that I picked up cheap, as a POS second car to drive to work while I was doing almost 1000km a week. Since I moved closer to work I've hardly been driving it, and the crank angle sensor died (this was a previously ongoing issue).

Yesterday my Soarer's front suspension dropped dead out on the highway, which was NOT FUN! It's going to be cheaper to get the Skyline running again just so I can get from A to B, and save some cash up to get the Soarer back on the road.

AAAAANYWAY... I replaced the crank angle sensor today, but the car doesn't wanna go again... I ran diagnostics a few times and there is no error there. It cranks over but won't start. Have I just stuffed up the timing?

Anyone know anything about these things? I'm pretty keen to get the car running again since I go back to work on Monday and I don't feel like walking on my first day back!

Crank angle sensors are a common failure on that model.

There is a very small part of the distributor that can be broken when working in that area (happen to a made of mine when his failed crank angle sensor was being replaced) and the damaged part had to be replaced as well.

crank angle sensors are normally the problem, I used to keep them on the shelf at Autobarn when I worked there and it was not uncommon to have faulty ones straight out of the box...and good brand ones like bosch ect. Have you staticly timed the engine at TDC?

Not yet, I don't have the gear here. Hopefully get on to that tomorrow, and perhaps diagnose my problem.

Do you have spark, injector pulse & fuel pressure? If so then it should only be a a matter of timing the engine before it starts. If not then check the CAS you installed - they are also renown for the CAS connector plug falling to pieces or corroding.

Good luck!

The plug on the original was stuffed. That's what the diagnostics picked up on in the first place.. I'd say it was just the slightest short in the harness that caused the fuel cut-off, therefore stalling the car as I drove.

Anyway, problem solvered. I just ballsed up putting the CAS back in and the timing was out. All sorted, and now I have wheels again.

Now to save up and get the UZZ31 back up and mobile!
