Hey Guys,
I have another car (a series 1 RX2 Coupe) which is coming back from the panel shop soon to sit in my shed for more work and I was wondering how high I can safely get it to sit up on ramps or whatever else.
I want to get it as high as I can to work on so was wondering what methods any of you had used in the past to get it on ramps or axel stands etc.
Ideally I'd want it say 2 feet + from the ground.
The car is running so it can be driven onto a platform.
The shed has reinforced concrete floor with some old house carpet on top. Is the carpet a good idea or should I rip it up first?
Thanks Mark

Has a 13B extend port with 4 Barrel Carby (48 IDA Weber got pinched), Extractors + big exhaust Lightened Flywheel, 5 Speed, and a little Mazda truck diff for added fun.
It's not too crazy or brappy, I prefer N/A rotors to turbos esp in older cars, and it's reasonably easy to hide so it looks close to stock.

Depends what you have to get it up there. I have a couple jacks that do 100cm lift, and welded up my own stands to sit under the wheels (like pyramids but with a flat top). I had a car on them for 6 months and another dude has now had a car on them for 2 years.

Do what Miles has said. We used to have stands welded up to put 10-12tonne vehicles on at a previous workplace that were 500mm high. We used a normal jack to lift one end, put intermediate stands under it, lift the other and place stands, then back up to the front to jack to full height for the 500mm stands. Once it is up there it was stable as a rock.
The stands were made from half inch steel plate. Square base (maybe 250mm?) and the upright was simply four long triangle sections welded to form an 'X'. For the tops you could make something to snugly fit your mounting points, but we just had a smaller flat square plate.
I have some stands I use for the soarer welded up out of flat steel bar. They look like little steel stools with 19mm MDF tops that the tyres sit on. These are only about 250mm high for when I want to get under the car. I also use them with skid plates for wheel alignments.

Thanks Guys, suggestions taken on board. Dad's got some massive axel stands that he welded up to support his 5 tonne OKA so I think they'll be fine for my little toy.
ps if you're not sure what an OKA is, this is Dad with his OKA
