Society seems to have this idea that an apology rendered after an offensive act can somehow negate it. I'm more of the school that things once said can not be unsaid. You've made it clear how you feel about me and that's that. Can anyone honestly expect that an empty group of words afterwards somehow makes it all OK?
Further, I believe that if you had even a modicum of real contrition then your apology would not include blaming me for somehow provoking you into being racist, and would also not include an instant resumption of your argument about how wrong my opinion was. You couldn't even make it through the apology post without starting up again about how you were actually right all along.
I don't believe that I am under any obligation to accept your apology and thereby revalidate your character in front of the forum. I believe the only motivation behind you posting it was to save face in front of the rest of the membership, not to actually try to make me feel better. It's clearly evident that you've just made this apology as some kind of argumentative tactic, as straight away you're hounding me about retracting my statements and my failure to immediately fall at the feet of your gracious apology.
Well, none of it matters. You have made it abundantly clear that you hate me because of where I was born. You openly attacked my opinion without provocation. I replied rather neutrally and was then continually attacked personally, first for my cars then for my nationality. I have made it abundantly clear that I feel you are an offensive racist pig. I consider the matter closed and fail to see what you think you will achieve by continuing to try to justify yourself by blaming me. If your goal is to convince everyone how stupid I am for hating Lamborghinis then so be it. If your goal is to try to make yourself look better in front of the group then you should work on your fake apology technique.
Yes I rough people up the wrong way from time to time (but not like you do). I make no apologies for my bluntness or abrasiveness. You don't need to make any apologies for who you are either. Mostly because as I said, apologising for something like that means nothing to the person you did it to anyway. Move on please. I am tired of this thread and I am tired of reading your posts. Everyone else is long since sick of it. Let it go. |

Tim how does Paul's behaviour at all make him a better person? Without provocation he shouted me down then abused me for my nationality. You've got some funny standards chief. Please point to anywhere in this thread where I have behaved appallingly compared to Paul's personal abuse and racism.
It's not my place to represent anyone but myself. If you choose to judge a nation based on one person, that only reflects poorly on your judgement. I've seen about the same flavour of crap out of you in the past as we have from Paul in this thread. It seems bigots stick together. Should I judge all Queenslanders by you two and Pauline Hanson? I dont chose to judge at all. Just because I can identify the traits in question, does not mean that I prescribe to the notion that all of an ethnic background carry them (as I attempted to imply in the closing of my first sentence)
As for whom is the better person here, at least he is prepared to admit his wrongs and offer an olive branch.
You on the other hand appear far more content to keep riding that high horse you're oh so comfortable on. Its all well and good to say you want the thread to finish in one breath, but then in another long winded one you write an essay about how hard done by you are.
May I suggest you grow a pair and toughen up a little. As has been observed by others before, you're great at dishing it out to people, yet when it comes to having it given back to you, you really do turn into somewhat the crybaby.
Instead of getting all defensive about this, perhaps try looking at it in a way which you can take some constructive critism out of it.
Failing that, there's always a good book by Dale Carnegie titled: How to win friends and influence people, which it appears you could probably gain a lot from. |

Again Paul. You can't even make it through an apology without blaming me. Not that it matters, like I said I don't care any more. You can make your apology, I don't have to take it. Again.. things said can't be unsaid. Just let it go. Everyone likes to think that bad deed + apology = smiles all round. But that's not reality is it? I'm just being honest about it. I didn't like you before you apologised, I don't like you now and I likely never will. No words are going to change that. No use pretending and no use paying you the favour of making everyone else think what you did is now OK.
Perhaps for the future you might understand that whatever your intent, when you are hurling insults based on nationality it is racist. It is the judgment of the person receiving it that matters, and it always seems a lot more serious to be receiving that kind of crap than to be giving it. Especially considering my nationality is a tiny minority here and I have to cop that crap seemingly every day from strangers, acquaintances, the media, everywhere - and I'm told I'm not allowed to protest because I'm white. You wouldn't have said the equivalent to an Asian person would you? Everyone wants to tell me how the world's problems are my fault, and all the other stupid crap they saw on TV about where I'm from. It sucks and I'm plain sick of it. You go live in another country and have people harp on at you constantly about how much Australia sucks and then tell me how it doesn't seem serious. Anyone who says anything negative about people with different skin colour on TV is crucified. But Americans? It's almost a sport.

I still have no idea what your motivation was for jumping down my throat in this thread. Everyone was having a perfectly fine time. this is hands down the funniest thread i have read in ages...
just coz this is after all an observation thread:
my observation: Lambos are cool, they look great (i like the ultra modern, hard edges etc..) look.. they go like a shower of ••••• they corner well and sound amazing..
IMO old american cars look ok.. some do.. but handle like a pile of schite.. they are ok in a straight line but seem to be afraid of cornering fast.. which is a complete waste of a car for me...
i can only base this on my personal experience.. and im sure i have offended people on here before with similar comments about factory z30 soarers... z20's too and celsiors..
fek, i own a celsior and am appaled the the handling.. or lack of..
my ultimate sort of car must be low, loud, have a stiff chassis and stiffer suspension, handle awesome and not be a boat.. so basically everything that lambos are and yank cars are not...
but for the sake of baby jeesus that is my own opinion... i completely agree with Paul in saying that you would never drive one and would sell one for 10k is farken retarded.. (no that is not a shot at people with intellectual difficulties/disabilities, im using the word in its more Colloquialised state)
if you dont like a car say you dont like it.. dont go off on some retarded (again) tirade... it makes you sound ignorant, misinformed etc... etc... that is not a shot at you... im not judging YOUR character... im just saying its what it makes you look like to forum readers..

actually, funnily enough this reminds me of the argument you had with my cousin about tax liability, owning a is250 etc...
just to refresh your memory, you mentioned that there was no way that he could afford a 250 within 6 months, and no company would allow him to lease one...
just FYI, Dan left this forum but 6 months later, when his lease on his is300 expired... he got a brand new is250....
so i guess he was right, you were wrong..

I believe there is a few reasons why Miles like AMerican cars.
1. American cars are built to appeal to americans tastes as that is there main target market. America's main automotive sport has always been drag racing, hence the muscle car. No need to make a super low car with rock hard suspension when it'll never see a corner now is there.
Same goes in Japan, I mean look at those crappy little vans that every one in Japan modifies, they wouldn't sell many of those to any other country but that is what people in Japan want.
In Europe you have many great windy roads and autobahns so their cars are built to be used in these situations.
2. Miles was always around american cars so they made an early impression on him and probably has many happy memories as a kid in them. I know my dad had a holden panel van, a subaru station wagon and a v8 vl commodore and I love all of those cars even though they are all pretty crap. There's a subaru brumby across the road from me, probably an absolute piece of crap to drive and no one else would like it but as with Miles, I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks I love it.
3. Patriotism. If you watched top gear when they road tested the monaro and didn't feel a little proud when Clarkson gave it the big thumbs up then you don't love this country. As sad as it sounds I was proud of that car even though I have nothing to do with it in any way, shape or form.
I realise this is like reading from a cosmo magazine but it's true.
Miles may come across a bit strong with his hatred for Euro sports cars but I guarantee that people in Europe feel the same way about American cars so who really cares.
The one thing I think you are missing Miles is that you are actually offending people on here with some of your comments indirectly.

Please note that disagreeing about cars is legal here. Making fun of cars is legal here. Having opinions about cars is legal here. Even making fun of people's choice in cars is legal here. Mildly insulting people for their choices is legal here although not encouraged. Being racist is not legal here.
Also I don't have hatred for Euro cars at all. I can't remember if it was this thread or the other where I said I would love q porsche or Aston Martin. I just hate stupid looking crap. And Lamborgjinis are stupid looking. |
