My 94 V8 GT-L is comprehensively insured with suncorp metway for market value

I am 40 with a %60 No claims discount, Rating 1 for life, no finance, no extras

and it is costing me $1200 per year

My 2002 Nissan Patrol 4.8 petrol wagon (which I have owned for 5 years) is costing $795, no finance, some extras

I just did a online quote with Shannons

Soarer for $8000 agreed =$476
Patrol for $25000 agreed =$474

I will be saving nearly $1000 per year (almost the rego for a V8 in Qld) if I change to Shannons,

Suncorp had better have a sharp pencil when I ring them tomorrow, will keep you posted

I have my 2 Soarers with Shannons. Mine are insured for agreed value, and cost roughly $700 for the 2. I am 56, full no claim.
Mine are also on limited use, so will be cheaper than normal(8,000ks per year or less)
I must say I have never had to claim, so cant comment on there service.

I rang Suncorp Metway today, they could not match Shannon quote.

I rang up Shannons, and because I had two cars to insure I received the multi policy discount

Soarer agreed value of $8000 = $383.73 P/A
Patrol agreed value of $25000 = $383.66 P/A

so changing from Suncorp Metway to Shannons saved me $1250 per year, that is a massive saving, and it makes keeping my Soarer a viable option WOO HOO!!

Mate, having worked for Scumcorp in their insurance sales callcentre, I can assure you that the Soarer is not the type of risk they want to insure... hence why they dont price themselves competitively.

Basically all the mainstream insurers want to cover is your average 50yr old with no claims or traffic history driving a bog standard camry.

Its money for nothing :-)

Just got insurance on the UZZ31. Didn't even bother with RACV who i was with previously. I knew they would be expensive so called Shannons instead.
Got full comp for value of 8k. for $ 512/year
Insured as daily driver and I also am rating 1.
Also over the magic age of 25, which reduces it a lot.
And car is located in a quiet country town in lock up garage.
There are so many variables with insurance. Its hard to compare apples with apples. One might include free window glass per period and another not, and one might have a higher excess if you do need to make a claim. So its really hard comparing insurance just based on premium alone.
But all for all I agree Shannons seems good value for money for rare cars.

i can only go with just cars cause no other insurance will take me lmao cause of my bad driven record that was when i was 18 and i had to pay 590 that was just for 3rd party that's it. I don't know about now but if they ask for any fines i'm stuffed again lol so i think i'm going to stick with just cars :-)

I'm paying about $850 a year with Shannons, agreed value of $10k, no accidents but am only 24yo

Also happy that Shannons have a "Laid-Up" option, so as my baby is off the road and parked in the garage till i can get some work done on it, it's only costing me $33p/m with full comp etc!

I'm nearly 27 but still dont qualify for shannons :-( their guidelines are quite tight... it's almost like a behaviour based cult you have to be a part of...

So I go with Just cars, I pay $81 a month for my soarer and $92 a month for my supra both fully comprehensive.

Once I managed to get into Shannons I have found them extremely reasonable. Nothing I have done to the car (or my licence)has worried them. The worst part is when you ring them in a hurry. They are always interested in the cars (both the road car and track cars are insured with them) and want to have a chat.

I did find it hard to get into shannons originally as the local guy at Newcastle seemed to have a thing against imports. (he actually said "we don't do Jap imports"). I ended up signing up at a motorsport event, where the Shannons people were very approachable.

I am paying something like $1200 per year for both cars. It went up because they do not have my suburb in their system yet, and the nearby one they used is a bit of a dump. The only thing they don't cover is me crashing the track car on the track.

The old man:

Drives a 2L Ford Telstar. ON GAS!. Owned it since new in 1989. Would normally pay $282 Comprehensive, but the cars probably worth $200 anyway.
Quoted $119 for thrid party for his suburb.
Is so tight however, that he claims the car lives at his parents address, in counrty victoria, so he pays only $64.
He's a multi millionaire , for obvious reasons...

That's bizzare, i would have thought you would be quite appropriate considering you work on your own cars, own two unique-ish vehicles and actively participate in a club?

Yeah but I've had my license suspended and a conviction in the last 5 years so that kinda rules me out.

My colourful history with motorcycles prevents me from getting insurance from Shannons til November 2011, so I'm with Just Car. My agreed value is $8000 and I'm paying $784 for that.

It's gone down since I first took out the policy. My first year was nearly $1k.

Third party fire and theft with just car on my GT-L is around $340 and the full comp I was quoted was $1100 that is with an agreed value of $10,000. Age is 21 no licence suspensions etc. For curiosity I asked about a 1996 supra RZ as I imagined they would be in the higher risk zone for them and was quoted $1750 for full comp with a value of $25,000 so thats not that bad considering my age I guess. I should mention the full comp excess is pretty high as you have to pay more for being under a certian age and driving a car in a certian bracket, was around $1800 excess but still better than nothing I guess.
