Hi guys

I need to transport a queen size bed from Runcorn to Chermside. Now my car has roof racks... I am wondering... Is it illegal to transport a queen size bed on the roof of the vehicle?

Does it overhang the vehicle?
Is there a weight rating on your roof racks?
You are aware what might happen if the wind gets under it?

David, if it's a foam rubber one you wouldn't have any problems.

It's fine, seen plenty of people doing it.

Remember the wind will get under the front of the mattress ad try to tear it off backwards, so make sure it's strapped down well.

It cant be any worse than the day we decided to take the boat down to the water on my roof, as i didn't have access to a car with a tow ball.

Was like driving a car with a 6 inch roof chop.

On a more realistic note, i have been behind a few cars carrying a mattress, strapped one rope over the roof in the center, with the mattress bending a full 90 degrees in the air because of not being tied down. I think i over took them as soon as possible.

Reminds me of a guy I saw at a boat ramp once.

Had an old tinny jammed in the back of a VL wagon.

I though he much get out and drag it down to the water.

Nope, reverses the VL straight down the boat ramp till it is half underwater and the tinny floats out the back and away he goes.

I tied an inflated tractor tyre tube to the roof of my old car to take it to the river once... damn thing flapped around and banged on the roof for the entire 40km drive, and it took a month of Sundays to polish the rubber residue off the white paint.

Lesson learned: buy a bloody portable compressor!
