G'day there...
I am wondering, who amongst us currently has or has had an 80 Series land cruiser?
Curious as I have always liked them, but they have alway been a bit pricey, however now days they are in my budget so I am considering getting one towards the end of winter.
So what is generally to know about them? I am not so interested in the engine side of things, but what about their diffs/gearboxes, suspension, chassis, interior? What goes wrong, what is their to check when buying one? What were the pros and cons from your owning experience?
Just wanting to know any specific things so I can be more eagle eyed in my inspections.
Thanks in advance.

Mike, I recently went looking for a 4x4, and was keen on either an 80 series, or 100 series, in diesel, or my other want was a 4.2 diesel GU Nissan Patrol. I found that while getting long in the tooth, these vehicles still commanded top dollar, and most had 250,00-300,000ks on them. Plenty in petrol models, mostly auto trans.
I ended up getting a 2004 Pajero Diesel auto. Am very happy with my choice so far.
Back to your original question(sorry for getting off topic), I know quite a few blokes with the 80s, and most have done big ks with little trouble. Most have had the suspensions replaced(lift kits) Like any vehicle, servicing is the key to long life. I would suggest getting on the net, searching 4x4 clubs for info. Thats what I did. Best of luck.

I have an 80 Series ( my favorite shape compared to the 100 & 120 series ) 80's are very popular and great to drive, they have great of road ability as well ( thats why they are a favorite to 4WDérs. )
Best to get the petrol engine and run it on LPG. On LPG or Petrol, mine does same amount on an 80 ltr tank of LPG to the 80 ltr Petrol. ( Towing Baby Hulk on the trailer ) * That is just a mixer type LPG system * nothing flash.
I currently have an 80 series (petrol/gas) and love it. Got it for a great price and the paint and interior had been well looked after by the previous owner
Needed a new gas tank, but other than that haven't had any problems. Used to have a 100 series with the 3UZ and loved the engine BUT my 80 has so much more character and I find it just as comfortable to drive as the newer 100 series.
Saw some overpriced dogs when I was looking. Takes patience to find the gem amongst the rubble.
I was considering selling it just after i bought my Soarer but i love it to much and i think unless i get a very reasonable offer its my lovely soarer that will in fact be for sale.
