Hard to imagine Lexus only putting the PS2 on the LFA, considering it puts PS2s on IS sedans with the F Sport package.

I think we can say Lexus has done all of the testing it is going to do on the ring. It has released the car and the Nurburgring Package. They had their shot, it's over. They tried all the tyres they cared to, it would seem. There is no development left on the car before release. No more fine tuning or finishing up. The car is released, it has competed. It did not get the record.

They're done. They spent all the time they are going to spend with teams of engineers and cars etc at the ring. They've gone home to Japan and have indicated they are done by releasing the car and the Nurburgring Package. Why are they going to go back now? They can't sell the cars and then recall the Nurburgring Pkg cars to change the tyres can they?

They spent more time and more money there with drivers who are more experienced in the car.
And the 7:22 stands. Bouncing off the limiter, missing shifts, futzing a couple of corners.... but it stands.

Fastest Wet Lap, 122.8, so around 118.8 in the dry (4 sec for wet laps on average).

Possibly, but they haven't been built for customers yet production I think is supposed to start 2011.

There might be time to take the prototype to the Ring for testing or modify an exsisting LFA.

I believe they had a race car version of the LFA, running a sanctioned event there recently perhaps part of there further testing?

Yeah they competed in the 24 hours of Nurburgring. Their development is done dude. The car was run by a private team. Last month. They raced a prototype in 08 and 09 but this year it was in the production class. I posted the results some time ago.

There is no more prototype. The bloody thing is for sale! Sheesh, I'd think this part is obvious... they've released the car!

They can certainly change the tyres at this point and release the car with them those tyres.

The specs only indicate the size but not the specific model of tyres used.

Bridgestone zr20s are on the standard LFA and until you prove otherwise Miles, that is what was used when they set their time so please if you have anything to add to the contrary, as you have said before either put up or shut up.

Also, as far as I know the Nurburgring addition has not been tested yet, if it does it will be irrelevant anyway as it will not be released with street legal tyres from what I've read so who really cares what it'll do.

I've watched and read many reviews on the LFA and their are very differing opinions but there is one constant. No one and I mean no one has compared it to the ACR. Why? Because it is not competing with it. Why can't you get that through your head Miles? Guess what, the ACR isn't even the fastest road legal car anyway so what claim to fame does it have exactly? You're going to have to get real specific to make one up for it aren't you.

hes not comparing the ACR to it. all he said is that LFA was going for the fastest ring lap time, but a decade old design(ACR) beat it. the thing looks great, handles good i assume, but they just fked it over in the engine department. typical toyota bullshit, over engineer everything and then slot in a very underpowered engine. shouldve just done a 2jz swap lol

They set out to build a supercar capable of competing with the other supercars merely as an advertising campaign. If they just wanted to conquer the ring they would have built a go cart. Why don't you sat the same things about Ferrari or lamborghini?

Noted that LFA has recorded the fastest wet time of the Topgear test track - from memory, I think it was 3 secs quicker than the previous wet record - a Gallardo.
All cars scheduled for construction have been sold.

See Ali got the point. Not sure why you can't Sebastian. I only spelled it out five damn times. But here it is again. Lexus spent all this time and money. They carried on about the ring. They said they were going to rule it. They built a car with allegedly 750k of technology per unit. They couldn't even beat an old tube chassis pushrod truck parts dinosaur. My point is that the Viper should have been beaten. Everyone wants that title. At least the GTR held it for a few weeks/months. Nurburgring Edition: come buy the second fastest car around the Nurburgring. Wow that's just got a nice way of rolling of the tongue for the marketing team doesn't it?

Sorry but I don't buy that they would leave tyres on the table. They spend brazilians developing and testing the thing and they don't try the tyres that are used by Porsche, Ferrari, Dodge ??? Yeah right. If it meant changing tyres to take the record they would have.

Also the Cups are not a race tyre. They are a track day targeted tyre. They are fitted to street legal cars by Porsche as well. Yes they are stickier and faster wearing than others. But these are by no means a tyre you would wear to race in anything other than a production car race or amateur track afternoon. Although they are not the tyres we might use on our street cars, they do have to behave on the street for the high dollar cars. Read up on them. Most of the acr guys doing track days ditch them for a proper race tyre. Everyone racing does.

http://bridgestone.co.jp/english/tire/approve/

Ferrari, Audi Porsche ect don't use cups from factory or any form of semi slick they use bridgestone street tyres.

When they were using Michelins they were using pilot sports as far as I was aware and not sport cups.

The cups are a street legal semi slick with slightly harder compound semi slicks similar to R888's and not as soft as the yokohamas so yes some people wont use them on the track as there is a higher performance option available but they don't last as long and probably don't drive as well.

There was back to back testing sports vs sport cups and from memory the cups were 2 seconds per lap faster on a smallish track about 1 minute total time.

I cant find this link but I found the following test which is 1 second per lap faster over 1 seconds.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/chartDisplay.jsp?ttid=36

They are a serious step ahead, even the manufacture supplies them as "DOT legal competition tyres".

Over a 7 minute track they would be approximately 14 seconds ahead.
