"MOBS of men have damaged a number of vehicles in an outbreak of fresh violence in the southern Sydney suburb of Cronulla tonight.

A reporter from radio station 2GB said "chaos" had broken out in the beach shopping centre with vehicles damaged and police making arrests as mobs of men roam the streets.

"People are standing around in shock, just watching," the reporter said.

"Every window in some cars has been smashed. Roads have been blocked (by police)."

He witnessed police arrest a group of five people.

Some motorists were ignoring the road blocks, simply driving around the obstacles, he said.

"There's chaos, with ambulances and police going in all directions." One resident, who did not want to be named, said about 50 cars carrying men of Middle Eastern appearance had driven into the area tonight.

Some of the men emerged from the vehicles and began trashing every car in sight with baseball bats, the resident said. "

This sucks big time - I am kind of unsure to the underlying problem, from what I can work out the lebs are trying to "claim" the beach is this right? The lifegaurds and ambo's being attacked? that REALLY sucks, I can't think of too much that is more low than attacking emergency workers.

Haha John, you think the riots between the lebs and the aussies has something to do with 911 - you are a true legend and may you be remembered by all, maybe you should go watch another documentary, might make you feel safe knowing there are other conspirists out there that make up crap so they almost have a point.

I think the media and local authorities have handled the whole thing appallingly. Regardless of who started what (I have my own opinions) the media *wanted* something to happen and were camped out from Sunday morning waiting to catch the action. Talkback radio whipped the city into a frenzy following the attacks on the lifesavers and camera crew in preceding weeks and only just stopped short of "a call to arms"... Conveniently Alan Jones is on holiday since the rioting so he doesn't have to account for his comments. The authorities were caught with their pants down while loads of guys from within and outside Cronulla got pissed in pubs then ran amok... There's not much evidence to show that anything was done to head off the chaos before it occurred.

Now we're front page news worldwide in the worst possible light.

Come on , lets look at the real situation.

Since the alledged terrorist were arrested the Extreme Australian public are scared and angry and are looking to express themselfs.

If the Lebs started a fight then this is nothing new and I am sure that it happens every day to some extent. If it had not been the Lebs, and I only use that term for simplification and not in any derogatory manner, but if it had not been them then I am sure there would have been another outbreak for some other reason with some other group.

I am sure that the media loves to make news and to report that 60+ vehicles are on their way somewhere was mostly to encourage more to do the same.

Freedom of speach is one things , freedom to use comman sence is apparently further down the list.

Personally I think that all this has been generated to allow the govenment to introduce further laws to restrict peoples rights to live a normal life but then I have no real opinion on that and also believe that Normal people have nothing to fear from anti terrorist, anti hoon or anti social laws unless they are abused by the higher powers.
There is classic examples in every country of this happening and people being held, without charge for months (if not years).

It is also in my opinion that Australia is undergoing change in a very rapid manner. I always believed that Australia was about 10 years behind in their social and economic attitudes when comapred with somewhere like the UK.
Now, for those that are already thinking of shouting at me, that is a good thing and a compliment.

I am not saying that Australia is Technology behind in fact far the oppersite there are many break throughs in technology that happen on here but the attitude of the general population was a lot more relaxed, the price of fish was lower and generally people had a better life in Aus than in most other countrys.

Unfortunety this is changing and I now feel that Aus is now only 5 years behind in this social/Eco difference compared with say the UK.

Not only is this a bad thing but it is apparent that this RAPID change in social behavior is taking the average aussie a little bit by supprise. Higher taxes, more revenue raising schemes, generally more European or Northern Hemisphere Rip off scams to rob you of your hard earned doller.

After all who remembers how long ago you could, without fear walk the streets, leave your car door unlocked while you popped into the servo or not have to think about being carjacked if you drove a nice car.
I can even remember when Petrol was around 70c/PL and the promise that it would never go above $1.
Believe me it was not many years ago.
Now people have to spend more on security, suffer the loss/cost of property that is stolen or vandalised, shutter on doors, CCTV systems, car alarms and the list goes on. All this money used to go on family outings, BBQ's and slabs of beer.

All of this economic change has produced the desire for people to have more money, those that can't earn it will do other things to get it. And those without will get angry at those that have.
It is not even a desire but perhaps more a requirement.

Now I know that this forum is not the place to air views that may have a political nature and realy this is not one of types of posts. It realy is just an observation from someone who travels a bit, looks around them and cares, but is unable, as an individual, to change the way things are taking shape.

When there are crazy laws introduced to stop Parents taking pictures of their kids and people in high powered public service positions that abuse their power just because they can without any recourse or fear of being repremanded I have to say that things are looking a little bleak.

Now with all of that said I do hope that things settle down but it can only make you wonder what is to happen next.

Is this a distraction to focus attention away from a real threat ?

Will people ever remember what the true Australian spirit was all about?

Will the price of fish ever return to normal?

Now I know that the world is changing, and I am not trying to stop that but would it not be nice if it could change for the better.?

I trust that you will all have a safe and happy xmas, and those that are alone in the world find someone to share the day with. .

I seem to recall that you, Stephen, were trying to assert that Americans, of which I think you are one, were different from Muslims, of which Muzzy may be one (I haven't asked him). You should consult Muhammad Ali and ask him if the two attributes are mutually exclusive.... after he has decked you, you'll realise that you are in no position to offer any worthwhile opinion on this subject..... nothing personal, and absolutely no stereotyping, just IMHO
