I've been getting asked about mine a bit lately with 'how much further do you plan to go with it', 'how much longer are you going to keep it', how much more money is going to be wasted on it'.

To be honest, I give it 6-12 months.

The reason I bought a Soarer was so I could have a reliable car I wasnt working on every weekend... as I was with the skyline I had at the time. Now, my Soarer has become the same as my Skyline... so... the time to part with it is soon coming I think... but I want to be finished with it first, that means 350-400rwhp needs to be achieved first

I think it has gone a bit quiet!

But ALSC is a lot worst than this. Hopefully people can wake up and use this forum more. Otherwise maybe Moderator can add some sort of chat version? hmm

I have no interest in a chat room. It's been tried before by others and failed. Another disadvantage is that words of wisdom are lost, whereas on a forum they are preserved for the benefit of others. :-)

I think many older experts in the Soarer field are just moving on, the whole Soarer thing has kinda died in my opinion.

They were a big deal in the late 90's early 00's when they were all immaculate and being imported from Japan for the first time when valued quite highly.

Now days a few older guys have kept theirs & cared for them but the majority have seen young hoons get into them, most of which are used to skylines and the usual dregs shipped out of Japan as their trash around toys.

Quite sad in a way, as Japan offers nothing else like them now days.

Mmm it's unfortunate.

The undoings of the Soarers have been their rapid depreciation, then again its the same for many once 'exclusive' large engined sports cars of late 80's and 90's.

A prime example is the 8 series BMW, they are slowly springing up for the low 10-15k mark to around 20 for once in need of TLC (Decent once are still going for 25-45k however)

The problem is it allows younger people into them, that will end up driving them into the ground (not being able to afford the maintenance in most cases), take this example here in NZ this week, a 19 year old recently bought one and his mate was driving it (so he says) and was clocked doing 200km/h down the southern Highway a few nights ago, cars now in the impound.

Not like you hear about 55 year olds doing the same thing.

I appreciate that I'm in the young category at 21 but at least I differ with my driving behavior & vehicle care compared with the great majority of young car owners now days.

That's refreshing Mike. I used to own a Lotus Cortina and a GT Falcon, but I didn't have to do burnouts to prove anything.
Shame you probably have to pay big money for your insurance due to the idiots who don't know how to drive and/or have a small little finger.

Heh yeah there isn't anything to prove but for some odd ball reason a lot of people I knew used to think having a V8 (Soarer/Celsior) meant doing V8's was mandatory somehow, I couldn't think of a bigger waste of time, considering I like my tires with maximum tread and well the fines/repercussions with the law are huge. Though I have done them on the drag strip before taking a run just, though much of a waste of time with a non LSD.

Insurance is enough, one company here called 'NAC' does insurance for younger people under 25 with high performance cars, I pay a little over 1k for my 325i yearly which is alright with an $800 excess (similar premium with Soarers)

I loved my Soarer, but being a vehicle enthusiast, I don't tend to keep vehicles for more than a couple of years.

I get to the stage where although I'm quite happy with the car I'm driving, the itch to try something else needs scratching

Having said that, it's a mark of how much I enjoyed the Soarer that I kept it for over 4 years (a record for me!).

Would I own another?................No; (been there, done that, I guess).

There is nothing else in The Toyota/Lexus range that spins my wheels.

Same reason why I owned a Mitsubishi GTO...........Not a big fan of Mitsi's in general, but loved the shape of the GTO.

I'm sure there will be other vehicles in the future that I shall partake of, but what the brand & model will be.............Who knows?

Hah! I read about that one - the funny bit was the head of Road Enforcement claiming you couldn't take the corner south of the harbour bridge heading north at "any more than 120 KM/h..." - what fantasy land are they living in? I can remember coming around there many, many years ago at a speed I won't mention well north of 120 in a car that would have had far inferior handling to any BMW built in the last 20 years.

This is how I have felt, I was well suited in my last Soarer but then when I discovered I like the way the 3 Series BMWs drove far more I just had to change cars. Kinda sad in a way as I would have still had that Soarer, but I've been there and done that too many times. Close chapter! (Though I am considering a Celsior near the end of the year as a daily driver)

I thought the same thing too, certainly odd where they get their ideas.
