just in particular in the last few months it seems to have become particularly quiet to me. It kinda makes me wonder about the future...who will be the long term soarer owners...who will be around to service and supply parts. I guess ive put in around 20g into my soarer and others like the gooroos prolly much much more. checked out alsc tonight and it is even more quiet. though many members post on both sites its a pity there isnt some kind of consolidation or greater support structure into the future ? or is it just me?

I have found that the traffic on here is often superfluous to the topic and regularly spirals down into petty arguments. If there are a few less posts, but they are mostly constructive (negative posts can also be constructive) then I reckon that is a good thing. I think you need to be realistic as well. We are talking about 10-18 year old cars that weren't that popular with enthusiasts originally due to the pricing etc. The earlier Soarers have a solid following but mostly on other forums and proper clubs. As the z30,31,32 prices continue to fall they will find fans with the younger fellas. The kids (young men?) in my street are right into them but they are looking at them as a base for modifying, not as some sort of classic to be kept in pristine factory condition. I reckon the ole forum(s) has plenty of life left in it.

I've noticed the same as you, and things do seem to be somewhat quieter than they once were. I think we will all one day have to move out of our Soarers (as I have) and I wonder if this is what is happening. Of course there will always be those who will keep theirs going for decades. It's a shame that ALSC and SC became separate entities which of course divided the community and as a consequence, there were less members to hold things together. I, amongst many others, visit this site practically every day and I sure would miss it if it ever folded.

Yes I have noticed this as well. Due to work I check very irregularly and after so many days theres actually not as much as before where I would have to basically give myself a few hours just to catch up.

well im not ready to give up my car, ive spent too much on it (and others have spent a bundle). It would be a sad day if it just me and niall (in nsw at least, vic seems to be a bit more lively) looking at it scratching our heads. Is there a way to consolidate? perhaps even the topics on this site should be condensed in the future as there is hardly much when it is spread over so many topics. Also there is noone actually raising the status of the vehicle as a collectable..though i dont know how this could be achieved. Talking to niall recently he has also made some cuts to his business as while he is a comptetent mechanic he isnt seeing the number of soarers he used to. in fact i was trying to convince him to do some marketing on the web to bring in the new soarer owners, you know the ones that buy em for $1000 bucks.

Still 222 posts in the last 24 hours. Winter also tends to reduce the interest, not a good time for cruises or working on cars. Plus as time goes on, more and more stuff has already been discussed to death, which will also reduce activity.

Ben the thing about people that buy soarers for 1k is that they usually dont want to spend too much on the car and looking after it and thus are not great customers Pen I would have thought winter would have people huddled up to a computer. Apparently not. I have been in two states of mind on whether to give up my soarer dream and find another pursuit or ride it till the wheels fall off. But I realise I still have alot of soarer loving to do so I am going to invest in the best soarers I can get and just keep them immaculate. Hopefully there will be a reduction in soarers due to wrecking, write offs, not caring, decrease importing etc. Then it will just be enthusiast that will have them...one day

As stated, one day we may have to move on from our Soarers, but at the moment, I struggle to find a car that presents value for money/features that my Soarer does. And my missus would kill me if I sold it on her

Yes it is getting a bit quiter than what it once was. Miles hasn't posted in a while I orginally thought he must have been on a trip to the US. I don't think I have made a lot of posts this year for a number of reasons, I have been very busy with work, I was recently married and bought a house (moving in next week), we also have a second wedding in China in September with much remote preparation required which is consuming bucketloads of time. It has been a very good but very busy year thus far and sadly car events have had to been down the priority list. After things settle down I'm sure I will have more time to read threads and post. As the soarer's are becoming cheaper and passed down to younger drivers this has certainly changed the posts on SC. Some of the younger members are hell bent in not taking very good advice most of which is coming from older members which have been there done that when they were the same age and the good advice is often trying to avoid making mistakes which they most probably did themselves. The advice is often along the lines of doing things right which costs more short term but saves money long term which sometimes doesn't fit into the younger members available budgets.

yeah i also agree. But meaningful posts are generally only posted to legitimate questions. And I think just about EVERY question you could ask about the Soarer is answered somewhere. So Yeah i think its on the decline. As far as socializing goes there other methods for that. failbook and the like. And yeah winter sux.

Friend picked up a 1997 model bmw 5 series with a blown engine but perfect interior for 300 dollars (customer didn't like the bad news the engine was gone). Put a 3.5L bmw engine in for about 1.8g's and now drives a 1997 BMW 535, leather interior, colour tv, all the things you'd expect in the most expensive of soarer's or celsiors except newer, classier and for only 2 grand. I should take some pics when i catch up with him, it's a beautiful car, no panel damage, no interior damage. Makes me very jealous Of course, being lucky and resourceful almost always outweighs standard issue value :-P

It's a LOT quieter on ALSC. Ps; As ewez know, I now drive a Fairmont, but there ain't now way I'm going on a Falcoon forum! (Redneck central!!) Ha Ha! Soarer Central IS my cyber home (and lovin it!)

Mr.Beck, It so WON'T be a BMW But it could be...............a ???. Frankly, I'm buggered if I know. As I get older (57), I don't have the passion I used to have for cars, as I used to. Sad, I know, but I'm if I know what I'll be driving in 5 years time ps; I'm thinking a 64 T'bird, but wee shall see! |

I would have sold the road car by now, but for the thirty-seven cents I'd get for it these days you cant buy anything better, or at least comparible. I'll likely drive it into the ground and then use the panels to reskin the track car once it is ruined.

Well I put the s/c on hold for a while (coming back to it later but with twin screw, not old M90s) So I've been putting my time into getting the V8/Auto into the 3 Series. Getting in a front E36 cut for the mount, sump and possibly header fabrication. All go at this stage so will be wired up and running late August.

Sadly no, it will probably have to be something half way practical so we can use it for the kids if my wife's car is off the road, and I try to never buy a car thats more than 9 years old as I tend to keep them for a long time, and the UZZ40 is a hidious mess of a car, so no more Soarers. Really don't know what I'd get at the moment - maybe a 4 door Skyline or a Aristo/GS3x0 - budget will probably be under $15,000 so we'll have to see. |

NO! My ideal choice is a 2004 Mercedes SL500, very sexy machine, with retractable hard-top...........Probably in Silver with the Red leather interior , BUT they're about $70k for a minty one . Add another $35k to the pot, and a SL5.5 AMG could be the go.............Mmmmm, Supercharged V8 goodness (in Black of course!). But that ain't gonna happen anytime soon...Sob, Sniffle etc etc. A 64 - 66 Thunderbird IS affordable, but somewhat impractical as a daily driver............Think 16MPG! Erk! However, for the foreseeable future, I'll keep "Fairmonting" along the highways n' byways of Noo Zeeland ps; Catz rule, Dogz drool
