It doesn't mean the car is any good though.

Agreed. The engineers at Toyota are at the top of their game.

I've been driving the cars at work lately, they are Hyundai Getz'

Hopeless in every way imaginable. The seating position is a joke, the engine is like something from the 1980's, build quality for a 2009 car is woeful, I could go on but after driving one of those things around town is enough to make you feel like a dog.

Next time I will take the Corolla 2008, much nicer.

The new Corollas are gutless, come with no features (especially the bread and butter spec Ascent) and are a bucket of sh!te.

The only new passenger car Toyotas I would ever look at buying would either be a Camry/Aurion, Tarago or a Prado. Everything else is overpriced or spends more time in the workshop.

Exactly, Toyota currently has NOTHING going for it in its model range which would compare to this vehicle.

Also, I've read from a reliable source that edmunds.com gave it 9.5 out of 10 in a review.

Again, brand snobbery at its finest here. I'd sell the Soarer for one, after all it is not quite the masterpiece which people on here make it out to be and is definitely with its own problems as well.

Which Hyundai model are you referring too?

Bull they are one of the best engineered cars on the planet for its time and they have stood the test of time considerably better than other cars of the same age and class.

They offered good performance, exceptional reliability, depending on the model exceptional lux and features along with a good ride and handeling.

Two things that can never be in the same sentence.

Its either one or the other, and the soarer is not a good handling car without suspension mods. (Which then ruins the ride anyway)

With springs and shocks it is a balance/trade off but you are forgetting about UZZ32's one of the best riding handling cars in the world.

Exclude the uzz32 as I am yet to drive a car that drives or handels as well and compare only the coil xzz30's with springs and shocks. Go for a drive in an early 90's merc or other similar lux sports cars/GT cruisers ect and you will appreciate how well soarers do handel and ride.

Further on that point a cars ability to soak up bumps is not just how soft the suspension is, good bushes, suspension geometry and soarers do this well hence why they do ride and handle well for what they are.

In terms of aftermarket suspension just about every single aftermarket coilover setup (dispite being much siffer and having a poor ride) in a soarer that I have driven handles worse than factory.

I have driven the 90's hyundias and for there price they were better. 13k excel compared to a 20k Corolla/civic they offered very good value for money.

22k i30 vs 24k corolla/civic isn't offering any better value.

Further on this point the i30 and i45 have a number of issues (dispite there improvements) that are very fundamental and really wreck the car.

and there lies the problem

Most coilovers are too stiff for australian roads. great for track work because the surface is smooth, for australian roads, not so much.

There is a lot more to it than that. Most aftermarket coilovers are crap.

As per many suspension experts have commented on bilstein, ohlins, penske and a few others are the only good shocks and the rest are crap even for track work.

I was recently reading reports written by a suspension expert who has developed a racing suspension setup on a number of cars all finishing in the top 10 in races at bathurst. After doing a lot of R&D top of the line Tein's with considerable modification were not up to it.

He ended up using elbaich springs, koni shocks on one car and penske shocks on the rest.

The key is quality.

One of the best handling soarers I have driven was fitted with 12kg front springs 7kg rear springs and bilstein shocks and adjustable sway bars

It was still a good ride and whilst firmer than stock there was no harshness and it shoaked up the bumps and the handling was very good.
