My budget is just enough to allow me to do a bit of head work, if I end with over 400hp at wheels I will be happy, only need another 60hp, any more will be a bonus.

as long as u use someone reputable and you know you can trust that is the main thing. alot of dodgy guys out there slugging people ridiculous amounts for a set of heads offering them the world and not taking them anywhere. i think we have proven that crazy power can be made with these heads with not much porting or boost. you just have to be smart about how you do it. the heads on the Capri are just a tickle up and it improved greatly they respond very well even with minimal porting.
we are pumping the power thru a race box also which chews around 25% of your power. instead of roughly 15% as a manual or factory style auto box would.

we took the Capri out again to WSID for the Full Throttle Friday, switched from the Caltex e-flex and put it on the United E85 bowser fuel. we didn't get a chance to do the new tune on the Race E85 and were curious to see how she could go on just standard pump e85.
it was a nice night for racing. however, we only got 3 passes, there was alot of cleanups. the funny cars, Top Fuellers etc slowed things down a but. we think we have found the limit of the pump E85 on 30psi, we were going to put another 3psi in but we didn't get another run. we are extremely happy with the little girl, alot of people criticise turbo's for not being consistent all 3 passes were within 5/100ths of a second, the first pass being the slowest as it was about 10 degrees warmer. ran a 8.42@164, then a 8.378@164 and a 8.370@164. we had alot of people coming up asking about the car, most called it the sleeper of the night, noone assumed it would run anywhere near what it does. which is what we like, we got a few shakes of the head with people wondering what was under the bonnet and how it all fit under the bonnet. alot of people were surprised when we told them it was a Lexus 4L V8 from the Soarers
we were hoping to go a smidge faster, but the 60's just weren't there, we put the boost up for the launches about 2psi, but, the fuel lacks the punch of the Race E85 we used to use and because of the lower torque output we can't get the 60's which is critical for the car as it doesn't have the top end charge like the big HP turbo cars. we went from 1.28 to 1.34 60's.
we seem to have got the tune for getting the car on boost pretty good. we had slight issues getting the car on the 2-step before, we leave on 5500rpm and 16psi. it's a big ask for a little 4L to get 124mm's of turbo spooling. but, we have it pretty much spot on now which is a big weight off the shoulders. no point racing the car if you can't cut a good light.
video of the runs. this is the tune it will stay on on the street and bracket racing. when going for times we will use the good race fuel. it's also quite economical on the street using 15L/100km http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUlT863m8as

we have given up the quest for a 7-second pass and concerntrating on a radial tyre for the new class, the car is now 200lbs heavier, runs a full exhaust with twin cats. testing last weekend the car ran an 8.53@161 1.38 60' 8.49@162 1.39 60' 8.42@162 1.36 60'
couple of vids. the first one is very cool, got it facing the back just so you can see the acceleration and what the tyre does at speed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-ODlOTc7-U

thanks guys, Christian let's not jinx anything engine has seen over 200 1/4 mile passes and 100 dyno passes, all sorta roughly at 1000hp+
we were surprised it ran so quick. best it had ever done with full exhaust was an 8.42 and that was on a slick and about 100lbs lighter. once we get the tune sorted i reckon there is maybe a tenth still in it. i can't wait till we put the new Precision turbo's in and some more boost, been stuck on 30psi now for a while. here is the dyno video from the other week, tuning from 18psi-30psi with the new ID2000 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVdgVSUMNV0

Just an update . The motor was pulled in March last year for a freshen up . After 30,000km and over 400 1/4 mile passes , it PB was 8.20 @ 168mph with all the weight removed and no exhaust with slicks .
In full street trim on radials it went 8.30 @ 167mph .
The engine was in great condition . So a new set of CP pistons went in to bump comp up around 10.5:1 instead of the old 8:1 . And new larger head studs fitted . Also a C02 boost controller from Leash has been fitted for better boost control as the Eboost 2 wasn't cutting it anymore limiting to 30psi .
Back together and on the dyno with pump United E85 , she reeled off 947rwhp on 33.6psi !
The garret gt3540's are at their limit , showing a genuine 1250hp at the engine .
Here's hoping this season she runs bottom 8's & gives a 7 second pass a scare before some Precision Turbos are thrown in .
Car is still driven to & from the track and very streetable now with more comp !

pretty disappointing to spend almost a grand(they are $900nz here) on a boost controller and for it to be a let down(Eboost 2) . Any details Daniel? Anytime you max out TWO gt35s you know there is BIG power!!!! Thanks for update.

Look Blake it was probably a combination of wastegate springs and the Eboost being limited to 3 times those psi settings as a peak figure but even 12psi springs still wouldn't see over 30psi on the dyno .
The Leash Boost controller also has a bump box too , so better boost control & bump box is worth it . Plus way better boost control as your not waiting for manifold pressure to build to help shut wastegates .
She's nothing special Blake ! 1uz stock Block , Crank , Heads . Set of rods & CP pistons , 1/2 inch head studs , ported factory heads flowing 290cfm . Standard Valves !!! Custom cams and cam gears .
Factory 1uz lower manifold Only match ported to custom upper and match ported to heads . Home made exhaust manifolds & a pair of garret gt3540 with 1.0 rears .
