I'm on the market for a tv. I have 2 people telling me I need a 1080p full hd tv to run this game. I'm sure they mean if I want to experience gt5 to its full potential I need a full hd tv right? I am not familiar with electronics specifications. I was just going to purchase a samsung lcd with 1366 x 768 resolution... that's good enough right??

From what I read, GT5 only does 1080p in NON GAMING mode. So while in the menus you might be in 1080p, actual racing would be 720p. 1080p I think is achievable via PS3 upscaling but will hurt performance like anti aliasing. In any case; buying a new TV now means 1080p FULL HD, anything less is NOT VALUE FOR MONEY. Unless you are on a super tight budget, I would recommend against the TV you want to buy. November 2... My simulator is almost ready, Logitech G27, APIGA AP2 Simulator and Supra Seat!

dont waste your money on a 720p mate. you can easily get great 1080p tvs for very cheap. also look into LED tvs.

Ali got your msg sorry havent msgd back yet. What do you recommend? Is plasma ol skool technology now? I have been looking to get a 26"-32" for my room and from what I have researched so far I need 100Hz and an LED LCD Full HD turner if that helps, costs roughly $600-$1000 but I am only looking at Samsung as they seem alright from previous expereinces.

If you are looking for a TV that is between 26-32" than you will never go wrong with a LED LCD Sony or a Samsung (they usually use the same panel!!). They both have an extensive panel life, great after-sales services, and an extremely low fault rate. Anything bigger than that, i can highly recommend the new Panasonic Neo-Plasmas - you will never see blur or lag in even the fastest movie scenes/sports/games, the picture quality is equal to slightly better than LED (depending on the room), they don't have the burn-in issues of the older style plasma's and you can get a 54" for around $1600-$1800 if you play the bargaining rounds at the big electronic stores (go from Harvey Norman to Retrovision to Good Guys to JB Hi-Fi and they will just keep lowering the price to get the sale) Whatever brand or size you go for though, Jason is right on the money when he says don't bother even looking at anything below FULL HD 1080P with 100HZ or you will need to buy another TV in 2-3 years when everything new is made to only work with 1080p 100hz

lost of 32 inch tvs around, lg, samsung, sony, etc. and most are sub $1000. i reckon led is probably the best route, cause its thinner and looks insane, and they are ment to last quite a while. if you want a decent cheap option look at kogan. apparently they use lg/samsung panels but assembled in china or something.

I've got myself a 40' LED Sony Bravia. Picked it up for an amazing price due to a family friend buying it then deciding she didn't want it. Got it all hooked up to my ps3 with a HDMI cord, and i'm eagerly awaiting GT5.

Spewin there aren't V8 Soarers or SC400's, now I am hoping I can get a SC300 or 2.5 JZZ30 and swap the 1UZ out of the LS400 they have in the game!

this one http://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-lcd-led-plasma/lg/50-inch-full-hd-plasma-tv-sku-52505/ Dont bother with LED tvs. THey are only good for well lit rooms and have refresh rates. The black and white are alot sharper on plasmas.

They've gone to all this effort of making an amazing game and putting in heaps of cars and they've omitted the sc400/v8 soarer.. Hrmm, hopefully cars are available to download. Are engine swaps in the game possible?

Well the TV will only be in a bedroom of 3 x 4 meters. So I'm looking at a 26 inch Samsung (LA26C450). 26's don't have 1080p, unless you get a computer monitor/tv, but that won't have the same audio quality as a TV. So I'm stuck really. 32 inch will be a bit too big. That's ok, I can live with a 720p and it will run fine with GT5.

Interesting thoughts on the LCD TV's, I have one and I purchased it over a panasonic plasma as it offered in real work better blacks and contrast. (Most cheap LCD's don't though) GT5P is 720p in game, reportedly GT5 will be 1080p which I think is the first game to be in 1080p.

Fair enough, none of the games I have run 1080p but I must admit I haven't purchased a game for about 12 months. |

Nothing wrong with LCD or LED tv's. Plasmas are getting older these days - if you dont care about what Christian has mentioned, you can get a decent name brand plasma cheap. Haha, man I just remembered how old rear projection tv's are. Anyway, stuff it - I'm happy with my tv, and am looking forward to getting the game.

not to mention every plasma i see has the nice pinky sides and sometimes top and bottom if the picture isnt always full screen. i think plasma's have a higher refresh rate (hz) but still gets really fuzzy with alot of stuff going on. so far im loving my bravia hd lcd 100hz. awesome picture quality and the black is pretty good too. was so happy to finally get my ps3 to play higher resolution with a tv that had hdmi inputs hahaha

Nice one Aaron! This too is my first time using HDMI. It's heaps better to look at! It might actually be worth hiring out blue ray discs now, as my TV is good enough to watch them on.

christian. Yes plasmas use more power (but in actual tests these days is negligiable, besides do you really care? of course not) refresh rate is nothing but a marketing gimmick. aimed at idiots. because the actual refresh rate is determined by the SOURCE that you are running eg the game. LCD/leds have to change the color of pixels over time. while today most "response times" of lcd's displays is under 5ms. while that seems small. its not small enough. (even 2ms is not good enough) Plasmas dont suffer from this at all. lcd's use a fluro backlight to light up the pixels.lcd leds use an led backlight to light up the pixels which can vary depending on model some use one big one some use small segments which can be turned off indepandant to the other. the backlight color is WHITE. what happens when you try to shine white light through black pastic? the black plastic turns gray.. hence lcd's have incredibly poors black when 50% of the screen is black or more. LEDs dont suffer from this as much because as mentioned the electronics guesses where the blacks are on the screen and dims that area of the screen off to appear blacker. but they still suffer. Plasmas change pixel color by gas reaction. when a pixel is black. its BLACK. truly black. Plasmas also have a wider gamut of colors than LCDs because of this. Contast ratio is another marketing gimmick for idiots. as contrast is ultimately determined by brightness between black and white. how can you have a high contrast when your black isnt REALLY black? LCD's give a "washed" look by default. that may look great for MOST viewing. its not great for EVERYTHING. A plamsa display will look great with ANY source. Plug an old PS2 into a brand new LCD/LED and you will cringe. its looks horrid. anyway the only real downside to plasmas THESE DAYS is that you cannot get a true hd plasma under 42". oh and they weight quite a bit more because there is large amount of actual glass and metal inside it. LCD's are all plastic fantastic. hope that helps you guys...

i was going to get a big plasma but also too almost everyone i know who has a plasma after 2-4 years get the nice thick black line of death lol but saying that alot of electrical stuff has a chance of breaking.specially if you get the cheap stuff like chanchong and palsonic and ones like that.

As i said earlier, if you go for a new plasma a.k.a 'neo-plasma', you won't have any of the burn-in, glare, black line or blur issues that you could get a few years ago. anyone who says that plasmas are no good need to get with the times a bit... I personally have a Samsung LCD i bought 3 years ago when i was TV salesman and used to hate plasmas, but technology has changed

Gary, plasmas still have a response time and can have motion blur all be it quicker than LCD's and the user is less likely to notice motion blur. Plasmas also do not go completely black. When I went with the TV I have it had blacker blacks than top of the line plasmas such as Pioneer and Panasonic. The motion blur due to the response time of LCD's is highly dependant on the quality of the TV. Even without the additionaly frames being added a good quality LCD will have nearly no motion blur only on the occasional very fast fight scene where as a poor quality LCD the motion blur stands out like dogs balls all the time. The additional frame 100Hz not a marketing con helps reduces this effect although it doesn't completely remove it.

I bought a 55" Samsung LED LCD 200hz last year, blacks are very black, virtually nil glare, motion blur isn't that noticable, PS3 looks awesome on it. Samsungs are edge lit LEDs not back lit. I found that plasmas were prone to glare as they have a glass screen display.
