that there may be favouritism when it comes to V8 Supercars. I mean the fiasco at Surfers Paradise today got me pretty peed off. So Garth Tander gets to drive around with a headlight that is about to fall out without a black flag and Courtney gets one for, ah, I'm not sure even now. When I see the ad with the grandstand in it with the flags flying on either side, I see on the right, 3 Holden insignias but on the left they are indistinguishable. I must be wrong I know, but the Fords still did well even though they only have one third of the field.

I love giving all the ford/holden followers at work I find it hilarious how they dont actually support a racing team as such but just go for holden or ford... and when they win it's like "YEEAAAHHH... HOLDEN WON" i always say something like "WOW... YOU WON AN EVENT WITH 2 TEAMS... YOU MUST BE THRILLED"

I hate it.. I think racing was once about forcing engineers to come up with a way to display amazing design and concept and drivers skills on a track thereby improving the mechanics of cars and so on from breaking and cornering and balance and the rest of that.
But the V8's is designed to be pretty much anti all that. There is no reason it exists except as pure entertainment.

Indeed, from what I've read there are fewer than 30 parts on a V8 Supercar that are built in the same factory the ordinary saloons come out of - everything else is specifically designed and built specifically for the Supercar series. So from a manufacturer point of view, it is totally meaningless.

Your not wrong Mike. Courtney got the black flag for backing up the rest of the field behind the safety car but I've seen that done in the past without penalty. I was trackside for most of the event and was actually listening to Courtney's in-car radio on my scanner when that happened... he wasn't happy.

I think your right there Aiden but as a V8SC fan myself, i think they do a pretty good job of making it entertaining for your average punter who maybe doesn't know much about the technical aspects. Especially considering the budget they work on compared to F1, Indy, Nascar etc.
Here's a few photos from the week away:
This ute got a bit airborn in a big collision. I didn't get a shot of the back end but the diff was hanging out the bottom pretty bad:
The V8 utes and Minis used our hotel carpark as their pits and I think most of the drivers stayed there as well. This is looking down from our room.
Go Indy! (mods, feel free to remove this image if not suitable).

From a spectator point of view it's meaningless.
Apart from the badge , and some minor differences in the tail & headights and basic shape of the body , how can you actually claim to be Baracking for Ford Or Holden ???
I didn't even know Lowndes and Whincup had changed from Ford , until I looked at their sponsor stickers. The Car looks exactly the same except for a Red emblem instead of a Blue emblem.
Pointless , boring racing !!!!
Parity between 2 makes has ruined the whole competitive side of it.
Take it back to , car out of the showroom, install a roll cage , then go racing. Let other manufacturers back in too !!

I don't barrack for either Ford or Holden, although your right that the majority of V8SC fans do. I just enjoy the racing and the atmosphere of the events.
I can understand someone following a particular team or driver, but as you say, barracking for Ford or Holden is a bit pointless these days.
It would be good to see other manufacturers get involved again. Even though I can't stand the bloke, Skaife's Car Of The Future design might be a step in the right direction.

Here's how i'd like to see V8
Anyone can race.
Engine must be specifically approved - a team will approve engines from all submissions between Xcc's and X+1000cc's. Standard frame. Only production cars which follow that format should be allowed to be 'reproduced' in the frame. (IE no FWD production cars are racing with a RWD setup).
Aerodynamics are standard between every entry (we don't get huge scoops and bodykits and wings on our production cars, so standardise them to accentuate the engine differences).
Only allowed 1 engine change over the entire season (that is, powerful fragile engines are going to break under tough load).
Basically rules that would promote both a comptitive environment but also each car could be seen as strong or not by how the engine handles a race, or how it handles overtaking on a straight.. or etc. There's 10 000 other factors anyway. But you might actually get an insight into a car maker you like by watching how the different cars perform

For some reason all the racing federations these days think that the punters are more interested in the drivers than the cars. That and the desire to make it a "safe" sport - which it can never be of course.
