Weird huh? 2AZ 4 cyl engine, barely run in really. Had it since new, done 70,000kms and the bloody thing stopped charging the battery.

The worst part, being a Nippon Denso unit, I thought, worst case scenario, about $400 New from toyota or $200 from the Autolecky and say $99 to fit because Im lazy with a new belt thrown in. It didnt pan out that way.

Auto Lecky says: "Weird mate, but I cant get parts to repair it, or buy it new from Denso"

Toyota says: "Oh, thats no good. Too bad your out of warranty, as they cost $1293.53 inc GST. Fitment is $296.00 with a free road test and safety check."

I bleed money :-(

The auto electrician (Who has rebuilt my celsior alternator) cant source parts: ECU controlled regulator apparently

According to Toyota, the 2AZ alternator was substituted when the current shape (acv40, starting 07)was introduced. Anyway, I keep looking...

Starting to see a lot of this. Ford focus seem to have the same problem from 40 000 onwards have seen 3 so far and they are a genuine unit only as well. Being euro import and lucas from memory they blow out to about 1700 fitted if its outside warranty

Just goes to show how good older 80's/90's cars were.

2007 Camry's alternator failing?! That is just ridiculous.

Unless it was a one off issue because of certain environmental factors...
