Does anyone know how long after you get a tattoo you can get it redone so its darker? Do you have to wait a certain period of time? I got mine shaded and after the scab came off it went lighter.

Usually after it heals properly, ~2 months. It shouldn't have scabbed that much, unless he went too deep with the needles. Did you apply the tattoo care so it would minimize scabbing and scaring?

It's normal for it to go lighter after the scab peels off. Most tattooists will also do any touch ups free of charge, or at least my tattooists have. wait till it fully heals and is no longer tender to touch, as costa said roughly 2 months

Yeh I put the after care cream, the tattoo guy said it may scab up,
I didnt touch the scab just applied the cream onto it. Its been about 2months now i think.
It was shaded with black, white and grey, and the white has just disappeared so it looks like theres no outline in that bit. I want it as dark as it was when it was first done and had the scab, it looked better. Im suprised it didnt hurt, I was expecting it to kill, I think peircing pain is alot worse. I guess it depends where you get it done though.

There was a thing on TV over here a while ago about cheap imitation tattoo inks being imported illegally - apparently not only do they fade and discolour, but they contain a lot of heavy metals etc. They look just like the expensive brands so you can't tell what your artist is using. Don't know if its a problem in Australia.

anyway it will never be as dark as when it was first done, after scabbing peels off its always going to be a lighter shade. It's actually the way its supposed to look. When it's new it looks too artificial, like its just been drawn on with a marker or one of those fake tattoos. After the scab peels is when it actually looks like a legit tattoo

Time and time again I hear about these dodgy Chinese imports. Clearly to many of them it's all about the money and not about the wellbeing of their customers.

I think a lot of them are probably buying from local distributors who are ripping them off - they probably don't even realise themselves they aren't using the real stuff.

Another article in the paper yesterday about paint on imported Chinese childrens toys containing up to 2.5% lead content!

Yep, I just tried to quote something too!

On the topic of the location of the tattoo, related to the pain, I'll agree with that. The ones on my arms were standard tattoo kind of pain, nothing much to whinge about, the one on my ankle stung a bit but the one on my shoulder absolutely caned! I could feel it vibrating across my whole clavicle which didn't feel very nice at all.
