I've been to parts of Asia where there is cruelty everywhere. I came back feeling psychologically exhausted. Wonderful people, but I can't understand where this dispassionate stance comes from. By the way, I chose not to view the video, so I don't know where it was made. I also chose not to view any cruelty first hand whilst overseas. Sometimes it's there before your eyes and cannot be avoided. I'm sure some races or cultures don't see some of their practices as being cruel, but for me I can't stand it. Where do you stand on this issue Warren? I'm asking because of your comment.

Well i haven't seen the video, but i know for a fact i have seen worse things. you should see how they treat and sell cats for food in china: here is part of a documentary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8S83zCTqaY
i find it inhumane but there's really nothing we can do about it. one video that really gets to me is the dolphin massacre's in japan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLEIcTMnres

i love animals, anyone who is cruel to defenceless animals needs a real good bashing. If i ever see anyone being cruel to an animal i will absolutely let looose on them. Throw them in jail and let them rot as far as i'm concerned. or do to them what they did to the animal, see how they like it...

I totally agree anyone that hurts animals should go to jail for life, its the most disgusting and disgraceful thing anyone can do. Hopefully anyone who does anything like that dies a painful slow death

Have you people listened to yourselves? Surely you are perpetuating cruelty by your reaction to the initial barbary. This is exactly what is happening the world over and there are no winners. Payback leads to payback. The very idea of exacting excruciating pain on either humans or animals for whatever reason smacks of misguided egotism.

I have heard that over in china they skin the cats alive because when cat is in pain it it will produce testosterone which apparently results in better tasting flesh.

Yes chris. Just sit back, pull another beer and have a chuckle. Do you think I would be so passionate about something and believe we should all do nothing? I have done something. I regularly contribute sums of money to the RSPCA and have left a substantial amount to them in my will. What about you?

?? there's of plenty of cruelty to animals going around, in Australia & overseas , and the problem is everyone turns a blind eye.
So anyone donate money or your time to Greenpeace ? , or RSPCA , or to a Greyhound Rescue Organisation , or a wildlife rescue .............I would bet NO.
It's also funny that most of you have said that those doing the cruelty should have pain and violence inflicted upon them in return.
Vicious circle!!
People need to be educated , and put to work helping animals as retribution for their cruelty.
Stop the violence , educate people.
Good on you Mike and others if you do donate or do something to help the plight of animals that may be suffering.

Easy guys, its the usual reaction to what the public percieves as lack of Justice. You know , like when some baby killer gets a single digit sentence. It's just human reaction.
In my shop, just about every customer with less than a dollar change, puts it in either the wildcare tin or the rspca wombat. And anytime someone says keep the change, it goes in the tin. Come to think of it any coins found lying around go into it. A great way to help is to never buy animals from pet shops. God knows there are thousands of great companions just waiting for a home at the shelters. Both my cats and the dog are strays, and they make great pets. This is one way to help that doesn't cost you money, in fact saves you money! My 2c.

Guys, I acknowledge where you're coming from and I have felt like dishing some out myself, but it isn't going to help in the long run. Something I've done for years is to save all my change in a jar in the kitchen. When it's full I take it to the nearest RSPCA and dump it on their counter. No receipt required. Makes me feel good in any case.

Agree, to a certain extent, except that we're into birds, and they can take some tracking down if you want certain types/colours/species. Cheaper to buy from breeders, if you can find them, they'd rather sell to a caring person than some yob who might wander into a petshop and like the look of say, a cockatiel, who then takes it home leaves it in a cage all day and feeds it sunflower seed. Breeders get stuff-all for their birds at petshops, anyway.
Petshops really hack into bird's wings (hand-raised, we call them "hand-fed", there's a difference, are trimmed so they don't fly away) and they can wreck them for life.
Anyway, I didn't see the You-tube piece and wouldn't want to. It would surprise me if it was Malay being spoken (was it Malay, or Indonesian? They're nearly the same).
Nothing in the way of cruelty from China would surprise me. They eat nearly anything that was once alive, and if you see the way the Reds treat "criminals" nothing should surprise you with regard to animal cruelty. It's a different society, and of course some Asians, like Koreans, eat dogs (as did once, Polynesians, along with rats).
Apologies to anyone of Chinese descent reading this- nothing racist is intended. My wife is Asian and looks Chinese... but we eat just ordinary meat although I can't handle the chicken wings she eats.

I do beg your pardon, I should have clarified better- cats and dogs are what I what I was emphasizing. Don't see many birds at the RSPCA ! Or snakes or bunnies or many others.
Don't mind those Polynesians, they were eating each other for a while. Then when the explorers arrived we planted their biscuits and made our own word for dog- 'kamir'.

No problem- I agree with you on petshops, and wonder about all the "designer puppies" (which a few years ago would have been "mongrels" i.e. mixed breed) sold for ridiculous prices.
