Hi everyone. Just spent a fun 2 days rebuilding my PC from scratch. #@%@#$!!!! I opened an email with an attachment called TEXUS.EXE after a virus scan had classed it as safe....Well!! That tiny 6kb file totally stripped my PC of any use what so ever. Nothing would open at all and the whole O.S crashed. Fortunately I'd made a recovery disc when I purchased it so it's all fixed now. Just a sh.t load of stuff to put back on it and about 3 months worth of data gone forever. Anyhow, this post was just to make everyone aware of this nasty little FU...R

That is a little surprising Sam. TEXUS.EXE exists as part of a Glide 3Dfx utility set. Are you sure you did not screw something up with an otherwise innocent utility? There is a screen saver by the same name as well, according to google but I have seen no mention of a virus of that name. Still, someone can always rename something else.

It was the only email I opened that wasn't familiar to me at the time. The melt down happened almost instantly and when I opened the file it was actually empty. Then my screen started flickering and the rest is history. I think you're probably right in suggesting that someone may have renamed it.

I have an unfair advantage on backups Tim, to the extent that my home computers are my work ones so naturally they get backed up to the server for business reasons. Off-siting involves taking the iPod with me when I travel because everything that matters fits on there.
I doubt it is me you have seen around the house. I tend not to be in the triangle although I use Adelaide and Commonwealth Aves a bit. Mine is classic dark green most easily identified by its non-standard wheels. Now you remind me, I realise I have only two shots of my car, both of them pretty crappy whereas I have religiously photographed every other car I have owned since 1969. I will get some.

Not unless it is an acoustic enclosure. I have a design drawn up for me by a local acoustic engineer for the Xserve and am looking for a builder at the moment. I approached three a few weeks ago but only one came back, and I am looking to get at least one more price to compare. Anyone know a skilled cabinetmaker or carpenter around town? I will pay realistic money to have it built properly.
