Hey guys and girls, what do you think a good daily car is? Has to be cheap and fuel economic, etc etc for it to be a daily

Been thinking along these lines too. I've thought about an S13 with the SR20DE and manual. I havn't looked into the pricing yet. Also thought about an AE92 Corolla.

If you want cheap reliable and Very economical, 93 - 98 Suzuki Swift. they are fairly gutless but the fuel economy on them is amazing.

i drive a 95 manual camry sedan as a daily. picked her up for $1800 with only 155000kms and full service history. i get 600-650kms from a tank, couldn't be any happier. what's your price range?

James! Don't buy a Silvia hahah! I've had a number of Corollas including KE70s and an AE82 in which I've been driving 60km a day for the last 11 months, never had a problem, the only thing that went wrong was last week coincidentally and the butterfly in the secondary chamber got wedged open with a bit of dirt sucked through the intake, so it was just revving, so I rolled over the side of the road and sprayed some carby cleaner down and tada!

I'm not selling the Soarer Christian, i'm just thinking about the possibility of getting something else as well that's cheaper, that I dont have to worry about as much

Can't get cheaper than a bike. $6k for an early model R1 and will smash most supercars on the road...and awesome on fuel! win/win

Hahaha, the bike is win!!! But car you need for pimping (several girls at the same time, bike just doesn't cut it). I've got a pulsar which does well, doesn't have the style of the soarer though! Oh yeah and power is no where close, lol! I heard Corolla are mad, 4AGE is a beast. Thought about getting an S13, but still import, so insurance etc is a bi**h. Would anyone ever get a Hyundai Excel :S

If you can get them in Australia, a Caldina - basically the same as a Corolla but way nicer looking. Available with the 2ZZ-GE Variable valve timing, variable valve lift engine which is a little ripper - 1800cc's but really shifts along. Nice factory body kit and wheels on the 2ZZ models too - though you have to make sure they have had regular oil changes due to the complex valve train gear.

Caldinas never got the 2ZZ, only the 1ZZ in the latest ones. Most of the ones you find in the country are 3SGTE-powered anyway. |

What's your situation for a daily? Do you drive everyday to work or are you looking for something to go down to the shops in? I easily cover 600km per week in mine and to be honest my V8 is perfect. One tank per week, and I'm stuck in heavy traffic every day. Had a rear end accident today in it as well... suffered a numberplate imprint and cracked paint. The Astra that hit me looked like it cracked the bumper (but may have been there before, who knows). Tough as.

Ah well, even better with the 3S-GTE then! :-) But the 1ZZ model might be a better bet for a daily driver. My wife's car has the 1ZZ-FE and its surprisingly nippy for an 1800. Fuel economy is very good on long trips too, certainly a good engine for an every day car.

What size car and how much room do you need? I would get something running on LPG, possibly a LPG V6 camry. Current price of LPG is 55-60 cent per lt compared with 140 for unleaded. Cost half as much to run on LPG but you will loose boot space.

My daily is either my 2007 VE GTS, or my BA XR6turbo ute. Stuff the fuel economy. You only live once, and I aint gunna go out in a 4 cylinder buzz box Seriously, if I had a lot of ks to travel to get around, I might look at it different. Our town is only 10ks from one side to the other, so no big deal. Could walk if I wasnt so lazy(or crook)

SB Holden combo! It's a very simple and handy vehicle. You can fill it up for 40 bucks and u can fit any and everything in the boot. It's also incredibly easy to maintain and if something brakes it costs you less then your lunch. has never steered me wrong and saves me alot of money.
