Hey guys ive been offered either of these cars for my soarer. Both have 200,000+kms. Just wondering what sort of reliability these cars have at such high kms? I just need to run these cars as a daily for a year max.

Perhaps I may be getting rid of the white Vvti manual. Actually letting my gen 3 mr2 go first. Not interested in the v8 97 soarer? That will go before the Vvti. If the TT v8 and Vvti go I'll be soarer less not sure if I could live with that yet and the Vvti I love most!!!!

90's Audi's are often horrifically expensive to repair. I think they are fairly reliable though - and its not like you can't say the same thing about Soarers in a lot of departments.

245,000KM on the audi. i assume if you get the major servicing done, it should be fairly bullet proof like a soarer?

From a mechanic who works on a lot of euro trash. Run from the audi as fast as your legs will carry you or you will be . Bank on doing engine mounts radius rod bushes inlet manifold gaskets a radiator and a/c compressor on the commodore and it will be a good car. I keep trying to have the boss pre print job cards for these items on all vt to vx commodores as they all have have the same problems from 170k onwards

Magna will keep going , just need to remove the sump and clean out the oi pickup as they sludge up . Can i ask why a falcon isnt an option ? a decent BA , even fairmont , even with 200+ on the clock will keep on going . Parts are easy and cheap if/when needed . Plenty of poke around town and not bad on fuel

Old Toyotas have silly prices on them, but good cars.Magnas are good value ,Falcons still suffer the head problems if coolant has not been changed at service intervals.

A well maintained magna would be ok otherwise they tend to get smokey also and have lots of trans problems. Camry corolla or falcon would me my choice if I was looking in that order.

Thats cos you have a yard full of Falcons I have allways said the Magna is an under rated car(later V6) Old company I worked for had a lot as company cars, and had next to no problems. And I must say, a lot of Falcons with well over 300,000ks.

I hate to tell you this but my other halfs V6 magna used to be a lot heavier on fuel than both my Tickford 6 Fairlane and the Au V8 fairlane that I replaced it with. . My V6 wide body camry that I used to use as a loan car was almost as bad but better than the falcons by only a small margin. My V8 soarer driven gently gave me the best milage out of the lot of them sadly. I used to average 100kms a day with both in traffic and freeway driving. Also for reference AU and BA falcons don't have the head issues of the earlier falcons. They do however blow radiators apart about as regularly as v6 common bores do

what are they using for coolant battery acid !!!! I have personally owned 13 au's with between 90k and 700k on them and 2 mates wreck and rebuild them regularly and the only reason the heads have ever come off is for oil leaks. I just pulled a head of a 235k au I am wrecking to put on a customers el at work with a coroded out head. It still had a steel shim gasket and had zero corrosion. I have worked in 6 workshops in the last 10 years and falcons up to el are shockers for heads but apart from the odd welch plug plenty of radiators and a few water pumps we never touch the cooling system of au's and ba's

I personally would look into a nicely looked after AU on gas . Duel fuel , cheap to run around town and as Brett has stated , they only use radiators and the odd water pump ( should know, i own one ) .

Ive had both AU'S and BA'S. BA's look and go better AU,s drive 5 times better and the seats are a lot more comfortable just a shame they are butt ugly. I can't drive a BA for any more than 15 minutes without getting a back ache.

As long as the timing belt is done and you keep an eye on the oil level and don't let it get low should be trouble free to 200000 would not want to own it past that though. Only common honda problem I have run across is the large rubber bush at the front end of the rear lower control arm can split and cause the car to rear end steer quite badly. This design was in most but not all of the hondas from the late 80,s to the early 2000,s

Regular oil changes, and make sure the timing belt is done, Like Brett said. I'll have to disagree on the BA/AU. I absolutely hated driving the AU but would go all day happily in the BA.

Never driven an AU, but have had 2 BAs, and crap seats. Maybe its a mechanics back thing, I dont know. My leather FG seats in my BA are good though.
