I have been downloading to USB stick from TV and they play back fine, but if i try to play on another TV says invalid file? looks like i need to convert file to AV1 , tried a few video converters but they cannot read file from TV.Wondering now if it can be done at all???.

Can you see the files in explorer? If so, what is the file type? (right click, properties) eg below...

My guess is due to copyright laws your tv would be preset to encrypt all data you download to play on your tv that has the correct encryption. Therefore you cannot use on another tv.

I think you need to record from tv to computer where you will have the option to record in avi mpeg etc.

I'm not so sure that this is the case. Having said that I could be wrong. Dave, any idea what the details of the file are?

you can record TV to a hard drive, burn to a disc and play on all dvd players , so i would be surprised if the TV encrypted the recording.

I use a free converter, "any video converter" to convert videos.

OK , unplugged tv from twin tuner, plugged in second tv it worked on recorded programs and usb stick, but if i take the memory stick to another DVD,SAT,TUNER, SOARER, ETC NOTHING!!!!!
So it must be encoded and will only play if when usb stick is plugged into the twin tuner.
I could just take the tuner on hols, but the HD would take a bashing with some of the roads we go down.

Hi Dave,
i have not saved from a hdd to usb, only hdd to disc, where at the conclusion you must finalize the disc to play on other recorders. When saving to USB, is there options on saving format?

hi dave, further to the above, not all TV's can play video via the usb. Some only have the usb for software updates, and some only play MP3.

have you checked that the tv's can play video?

Hi Tom, Nathan put me right on a few points , but in the end it all got to hard and to long to convert.
Beyond wiz ( the make of PVR) and could see its a problem.

Beyonwiz recordings are made in proprietary format – .tvwiz – which are 32MB chunks in FAT32. If you export directly from the GUI the recordings will remain in .tvwiz format.
To transfer recordings in the more user friendly .TS (transport stream which is MPEG2), you need to initiate the transfer from a PC/Mac using tools like WizFX (free on their website). This allows you to choose between .TS or .tvwiz format, with the programming doing the compiling on-the-fly to generate 1 .TS file instead of a folder with many 32MB .tvwiz chunks.
Even a .TS format file isn't the most friendly format with DVD players not able to read them, and probably most TVs.
.-----

even if i managed to find the right format it all takes to long, so i will take the PVR with us next time we take off .

hi dave,

I record from Tv to HDD to disc, which is straight forward and easy.

Why the difference is a bit beyond me, but glad you got it all worked out with the usb stick.
