If you are going to stray from Toyota I think the evo is a pretty fun car. Nice go kart feel with all wheel drive. Pretty average on fuel considering its a 2 litre. Mate gets 12L/100km. Worse then my 1uz.

Scott.. i haven't seen a Supra with a decent interior yet... And i do want something that is economical when not putting the boot in.. Ian... i was under the impression that WRX's aren't very reliable ??

A bloke at work had a liberty and it was a complete lemon. If you get one make sure its not too old as the issue seem to come with age and kms and how its been treated. They don't seem to stand up to much punishment. On the other hand my Toyota chaser does and it gets 10.5l/100km everyday. Probably you will want another motor if you change though. What about a caldina. Nice 3s-gte, economy and power. Nice looking wagon

Like Craig said G6E Turbo would be my pick if the budget extends that far. Perhaps not the 'sportiest' but the power, interior and overall looks more than make up for it in my opinion.

I bought a G6E Turbo too, no regrets so far - it's a blast. Doesn't look sporty, but handles better than either of my Soarers ever did, and just a really nice place to sit. If I was not a family man I might have considered a Nissan Z though (not sure if a 370 fell into my budget or not, but 350's are very affordable now), the G6E-T is still faster, so maybe not. The other car I looked at was a GS350, but the imports were just so Japanese to the point of being impossible to use any of the dash functionality, and the local models had a huge premium on them that put them out of my price range... and again, the G6E-T was just faster. I'd steer clear of Mitsi's, don't know about the Evo's but all their "normal" cars have unbelievably soft piston rings and always end up burning large amount of oil, particularly if a prior owner has neglected them at all. Manual Subies are fine as long as you are very picky about choosing a good one, stay away from the automatics as they seem to be made out of cardboard.

Not going to get an FG Falcon that's worth having for 10K. In that price range, maybe look at a Nissan Stagea, if they ever got imported to Australia. They are fast, comfortable and practical.

2005-6 Subaru Liberty, 6 cylinder, and throw on a supercharger. Best of everything. I have a 2005 Subi Outback, 3.0 6cyl, 5 speed auto, leather/suede. Great car to drive, and good economy on the road. Paid around the $10,000 mark.

Not a fan of the 300C - maybe if you were buying one new with a warranty, but US Chryslers are pretty poor quality, so if you are getting one that's more than a few years old, be very careful. The Mark II is a nice looking car, quite a few of them being imported here at the moment.

Yeah there is a reason no one else makes hemis anymore. I would avoid unless you are considering dropping a 1uz into in the future? Otherwise mark 2 are great and same potential as Soarer.

Chrysler? Yeah there's no denying the fuel economy of of diesels. But overlooked is LPG which is equally matched. Even using twice the amount of fuel at half the price. I'm a bit old school. I've driven rs4 and other cars and I've been in some pretty crazy cars and I just prefer the Soarer. They don't make the interiors like they used to. They are all hard plastic junk now. Classic soft vinyl dashes are just gone and I look at cars worth 10x or more then my Soarer and they feel cheap.

If you buy a BMW, or a Chrysler, you will still need the Soarer. It will be the only reliable car you will have. I am with Robert Day on choices.

Like always, get what makes you happy! There are some really quick diesels available now, but with their lazy rev ranges and the "wrong" noises they all make, I always find them somehow lacking as drivers cars, no matter how hard the manufacturers try. Also, not sure how it is in Australia, but in NZ by the time you pay road user taxes, factor in the significantly higher cost of maintenance and repairs, they just really aren't any cheaper to run (unless like most Kiwis you don't mind it blowing black crap everywhere and drive them without even basic maintenance until it dies or the cops pink sticker you)

There's a guy around the corner from me who has a "fake" SRT-8 - well I assume it's fake because I pulled away hard from the lights on him a couple of weeks ago, and I doubt that would have happened if it was a real SRT-8 - either that or he's got some serious issues with it. Looks the business though, if you are into the gangsta look. |

Well what are you thinking Chris? I think if you fast, nice and reliable it won't be cheap. Within a budget one of the above will have to take a backseat. If money is no object then you can have those things. I think the Soarer is one of those freak cars that does it all and is very affordable. You might want to consider another make of Toyota. My Chaser I've never fixed anything in 40,000kms about 4 years. I've spent money on it but not on repairs, not once. The Soarer had an airbag blow and a coil die. But in 90,000km that's not too much to complain about.

What's your budget currently Chris? I'd advise against those types of Mazda # ranges, I've driven them all, 3, MPS, 6 and found them all to be tiring to drive, lofty and boaty on the road. Little composure if any. MPS models are fast, but torque steer!! Drove a 2016 2.0L Mazda6 earlier this year for a couple of hours on the open road, for a new car it felt like the suspension was detached or made with teabags. I'd look at Modern Toyotas or Lexus models 10 years or younger. But again depends what your budget is. Just don't expect anything to come close to trumping the Soarer.

Mazda 3 or 6- welcome to mediocrity. Why not just buy a boring old Camry? I know the old Mazda 121 was bullet proof. The Mazda 2 seems decent but the Mazda 6 I've heard bad things in terms of reliability. My gramps had a Mazda 6 gave him issues just outside of warranty. Honestly I would say I would pick a Hyundai over a Mazda these days. I30 i a decent car according to the experts. Definitely would agree with the above. Toyota or Lexus will give you something on par with a Soarer.
