It just strikes me as a strange BMW and Toyota relationship, has upper management / production changed that much for Toyota to reproduce one of it's most famous cars by using mostly BMW parts?
Especially with no manual option, it's not exactly what the fans of the Supra would want.
I can only imagine this will be a similar success to the new Honda NSX that failed to deliver (Probably from being too technical)

Anything with a Supra badge on it in my opinion is to pay homage to the model. Putting a BMW motor misses the point. One of stand out points on the Supra is how strong the 2jz engine is. The best they can come up with is take your brand new car and swap in an old engine from the 90s from a wreckers. An old leaky high km tired 2jz is still probably an upgrade. This is the message I got anyway.
So a brand new car with 10km on the odometer running a 1996 2jz with close to 200,000km is going the be one of the better examples. At this stage I'm a bit skeptic.
Got no problem with a BMW Toyota joint venture. Shouldn't be anywhere near the Supra though.
