Lucky it's only a Ferrari, imagine if this had been your Soarer!!
The young man only had some bruising ( seat belt ) and 2 small cuts.
-car loss 3 million
-waiting list for a new one? 2 years
-when can I drive Dad's car again? not less than a nuclear 1/2 life
-when will I not be grounded & see the light of day? same day the polar ice caps melt
-still alive....Priceless
Only in California. What happens to a Ferrari after hitting a pole at 200+ mph....!

That set of photos should include one of the engine in the middle of the road, and a shot back up the road showing bits of debris (seen 'em before). |

3 million (denomination unspecified) is not Australian or US dollars. The value is around 1-1.2 million in $US or about $1.5M Australian.
All reports list the car as travelling at 160-162mph (260km/h), not 200+mph
Nobody borrowed the car. It was either being driven by the lessor, Stefan Eriksson, or (on his report) by some mysterious "Dietrich" who "ran away". It appears the car was about to be repossessed by RBOS (Royal Bank of Scotland) after the owner's business failed the previous year.
There is also a single report that he was racing another car.
Eriksson had a cut lip. His blood alcohol level was 0.09 (legal limit in California appears to be 0.08 rather than the 0.05 prevalent here, but he is gone on that anyway).
EDIT: Only 399 of those were proposed to be built (not the 400 in the news reports). If they have all been constructed by now, then wait as long as you like. |

Stefan Eriksson was the CEO of the company that made the Gizmondo (failed PSP competitor) - he sold his shares in the company while it was still riding the bubble, and I believe is still quite a rich man. |
